Title: Screen washer jets
Post by: glyno on 23 September 2007, 16:14:51
Hi,

My screen washer jets have stopped working, due to fatigue.  The actual pump is fine.

Is it an easy job to replace these (totally useless as car maintenance) or would it be a cheap job to have done by a garage?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Omega estate 2.0 16V 1999.

Is it both of the jets which have stopped working or just an individual one??

If its both, it may just be the rubber filter on the end of the pump.

Is your Omega pre-facelift or facelift??  Procedure is the same to an extent...

Remove the grill (if its pre-facelift) or just open the bonnet if its facelift

Reach down to the pump which is attached to the washer bottle just behind the bumper slightly offset to the right from the number plate (facing the car)

Then with pump removed, feel about for a piece of rubber which is where the pump plumbs into.  Retract that and give it a clean!

Hi,

It is the actual jets embedded in the bonnet.  One had stopped working so I opened up and saw the rubber hose hanging.  The bit of plastic that the hose goes on had broken.  In checking this out,  the other one also decided to break off.   I live in a hard water area and have seen this sort of thing before.  Basically, I've got to get the old jet out and reattach the hose, however it didn't look totally straight forward.

They should just unclip from the underside of the bonnet, its a bit fiddly, especially with the insulation in place!

You should be able to just trim the end of the hose and re-attach it though

Prefacelift If heated they tend to dry out and bake hard and also corrode - fit new ones - not worth messing about - do both
