I'm afraid I'm not joking.
I've had a lovely day, been helping Tunnie in Brackley, and then spent some nice time with TheBoy and his other half.
I drove back from Brackley, to Gloucester, and then caught the train from Gloucs to Cardiff to see my other half.
When I stepped off the train at Cardiff, and left the station, I went to the cashpoint, to withdraw the remaining money for my project car that Im buying on Sunday.
A rough looking young girl in her early to mid twenties came up to me, and kept following me. She was begging to borrow money, because she said she'd been beaten by her other half and needed food etc.
Eventually, to get her off my back, I agreed to give her a couple of quid (literally a couple of quid).
When I pulled out my wallet, she snatched it, and ran. It had near on £600 in it (ready to buy this car).
Believe it or not, I'm pretty fit, and I gave chase. I caught her, pinned her down (without being violent or causing injury) and managed to retrieve the wallet. At this point she wriggled free, kicking and biting etc...
I checked my wallet, it contains £190. So she's made off with well over £300 out of it.
I gave chase again, confident again that I would catch her and retrieve the rest.
Unfortunately, a group of blokes saw me chasing her, and all pounced on me and restrained me (to say the least).
As a result, the theif got away, with well over £300 of my money.
Just called the police, got an incident number, and they will be with me in the hour as a priortiy case.
Doubt I'll get any luck though.
It's the last bl**dy time I show any kindness to anyone, I am absolutely gutted :'(
-
Sorry to hear that James, hope your ok too and didn't sustain any injuries, any cctv around?
-
dont know what to say, that is well out of order......
hope that she gets her comeuppance
-
Really sorry to hear that, James. >:(
I hope it gets sorted.
Some thanks you get for being nice to people these days.
Kevin

What did the blokes say when you convinced them that you were not trying to assault the girl?
-
What did the blokes say when you convinced them that you were not trying to assault the girl?
Very apologetic, but it was too late...
Alas, none of them witnessed anything.
End of the day, I'm more grateful I didn't get hurt. But I'm still really upset about what happened, and fair to say very shook up.
I'm afraid a lot of my "social" and "if possible" plans are going to be out of the window this month. :'(
-
Really sorry to hear that
I bet your well shook up.
-
Sorry to hear that James, your ok, thats the main thing, I know you lost money but you are home and able to tell the story.
All the best mate
Pond life will have their day
-
Hour has elapsed.. no plod yet, as promised.
I guess its Friday night...
-
That is a $hitter. Must be really upsetting, even for a bloke. You think this sort of thing only happens on the telly but that's exactly what's wrong with this country. When entering west Yorkshire, we're hardened to these kind of antics >:(
I kid you not, one big bloke came up to me whilst waiting outside college in the car, tapped on the window, as I opened it just a notch, he said "you won't tell anyone if I knick this bike???" as I looked bewildered he dumped his own bike on the deck pulled out a pair of bolt cutters from his satchel, chopped the lock in one go and rode off! :o I was on the phone to the coppers, but it's low priority stuff >:(
At least you had your wallet back, she deserves a bloody good beating from somebody I tell thee
-
Police have just been out. Very friendly WPC and PC.
Explained the situation, gave a full description. They have a couple of leads, inc CCTV, albeit small.
Was advised I've probably lost the cash, but I guessed that would be the case anyway.
-
Thats bad news James >:(..............theres quite a few beggars roond peckham area and to be honest never give them nothing............obviously avoiding the risk.
-
This is so Unbelievable, i really feel sorry for you, all your hard earned cash.
I hope that the Police at least find this Crimiminal, to Prosecute, even if you don´t get your Money back, at
least you will not loose faith in the System.
-
Sorry to hear that James......shes probably dead in a gutter having over dosed on the Heroin she bought with the money.
-
Sorry to hear about your misfortune, James, it could have been worse, she could have pulled a knife on you.
-
claim on your insurance for personal possessions, may recoup some of that cash....glad your "okay" ;)
-
Sorry about that, youve learned never give money to stangers the hard way :(
Sorry to hear that James......shes probably dead in a gutter having over dosed on the Heroin she bought with the money.
I hope not Mark, in this PC society someone would probably hold James responsible!
-
Thats bad new James >:(
But at least you didnt get hurt. :)
I never give to beggars....there maybe genuine ones about......but many are 'proffesional'
-
Sorry to hear that matey >:(
-
Bloody Hell - what is it everytime you come here :o
Glad you're physically OK, which is preferrable to still having your cash but being in A&E
You can live in hope that the drugs she undoubtedly bought have killed the little bitch.
>:(
-
Real sorry to hear you've been mugged. The main thing is you are OK, money can be replaced, you can't.
-
Hi James,
As Ken T says, money can be replaced, a lift can't.
I lent a friend thousands of pounds, i dont know which hurts more, being mugged or knowing it was a friend.
Hope you recover soon from your ordeal.
:y
-
Sorry to hear that James......shes probably dead in a gutter having over dosed on the Heroin she bought with the money.
Hopefully
-
Never offer money to beggars - a lot of them only want it for drugs and they will sell their own grannies for money.
Best thing is to get something heavy and keep a look out for her - then take your money back.
If she hasn't got it - hospitalise her
-
Sorry to hear this James at least your ok
-
she wont get much if she's caught, best thing to do is hope you see her again where there are no witnesses and connect your elbow to her nose
seriously though, contact victim support and see if they can offer any assistance
-
What a skag bitch. Really sorry to hear of this, I'm always a bit paranoid when I've got any substantial amount of cash on me. Sounds like she was a junkie, what goes around comes around so hopefully the next time she tries it she'll get a good pasting for her troubles >:(
Glad you're physically OK, I wouldn't be surprised if she was carrying a knife.
-
Sorry to hear that James... :(
I would be economical with the description of the physical encounter between you and the young lady... if you tried to 'restrain' her that is one thing, but these days honest citizens can get in trouble for taking-on a criminal... :-?
Hope they catch her though :y
-
im sorry to hear that James :(
such a shitty world we live in:(
glad you're ok though in the physical sense..
-
Sorry to hear of your trouble, at least you are ok.
Something simular happened to a friends Mother after taking Cash from a machine in a shopping centre, the thief got away, my friend approched the centres security staff and asked about the CCTV system, low and behold it was all caught on camera. The thief was tracked down by the police, went to court, £75 fine >:( (they stole £100).
Don't know if anything would be on camera anyway, maybe worth asking around.
-
I am truly sorry to hear this m8. I think you acted accordingly. Some of these people operate in groups and you could find yourself backed into a corner by more than one person.
A bit late for advice but I always keep 1 note in my wallet and the rest of my cash in my front pocket. I have never been mugged but if it ever happens I would just give up my wallet containing the 1 note. Whilst writing that, I thought of something better. Carry a spare wallet with some folded paper and maybe some old, useless cashpoint cards. Give the mugger the duff wallet and leg it. By the time they realise they have been hustled, you are long gone.
Anyway, I hope everything works out for you. :y
-
Shocked :o :o :o :o that this has happened good to hear your ok, hope the little bitch gets whats coming to her.
Hopefully you will be able to make good of a bad situation.
-
OMG soo sorry to hear this there are some real low lifes in this world glad you are physically ok damn shame about the money will you still be going after your project tomorrow?. Hope you heal up mentally very soon and that they catch the scheming litte minx or better still find her in the gutter from a kicking someone has give her.
-
you still be going after your project tomorrow?
Oh yes ;D
I'll be seeing you mid to late morning :y
-
Sorry to hear that James......shes probably dead in a gutter having over dosed on the Heroin she bought with the money.
That is exactly what the Cops said ;D
I have just had a call from the station down here, they want me to go along ASAP... to look at photographs. They're also reviewing CCTV and fingerprinting my wallet. They also have another VERY strong lead that i will discuss later on... so I'm having my cupps and gong down the station.
I was very honest with the Police, I told them in no uncertain terms that I chased after her, and that I was prepared to get it back at all costs! They actually applauded it. They did put one idea in my head - the guys that restrained me, the police recon they were "in on it"... and following her from a distance, ready to step in and distract me while she made off with the cash.
Markie - what insurance are you referring to? Home insurance I presume? Not being the home owner, that wouldn't be in my name, so doubt I'd have any joy with that?
I wouldn't want her to be dead... or hurt, she's obviously got serious issues, and needs professional help. I'm not the sort that would knock a girl about, whether she robbed me or not, if I saw her again I would do nothing. But I do hope she gets the help she needs. (From the relevent services, not innocent public).
Without sounding snobbish, loosing £340, (total amount gone) whilst unpleasant and will result in October being a much tighter month, won't be the absolute dire, end of the world. I will still eat, etc...
Like I've said before, live and learn.... only this time the lesson was an expensive one!!
-

The world has enough scumbags like her. And why should my taxes have to go up to pay for her rehab time and time again. A shotgun cartridge is 12.5p - problem solved.

yes mate, was thinking of home insurance, even if not a homeowner if you have contents you may have some cover, its worth looking into if you have contents insurance, however, i think your need to be claiming within 24 hours of loss....
I know i am covered on mine for £250 cash but not sure how normal this is... :-/

I wouldn't waste that much on the Bitch >:( and why does everybody feel sorry for drugies, no one forced them to take it :-/.
Glad to here your ok James, people get hurt or killed for a lot less these days or as recent events have proved for no reason at all :(.
-
gutted for ya bud ! bang out of order :o :o

;D ;D ;D IIRC it was Fulton Mackay that said "harsh but fair!!"
-
Sorry to hear about this. The fact that she had the forthought to remove some cash from your wallet presumably in case she got caught shows a degree of a premeditated act and has certainly opened my eyes. As said look into the insurance situation you never know. Good luck :y
-

Thats the way how Russians solve these problems in Stalin period ..

What I object to is that we talk about druggies being "clean" and "rehabilitated" when in fact we have just started feeding them with a legal drug, maintaining their addiction at tax payer's expense. Doesn't make them any use to society. Lock 'em up in a cell with nothing but food and water for a bit of cold turkey and contemplation I say. You reap what you sow after all.

Costs us money to lock 'em up. As does shooting, though its much cheaper.
-
dont get me started on this one again.... :( i`ll leave it at some "prisoners" have a better taxpayer funded lifestyle than genuine peope trying to get by....
-
More than the drug users ,the producers of those things are guilty..
The punishment what TheBoy says is necessary for them..

Although I'm bad in organic chemistry, from what I remember alkoloids (all these kind of stuff) have one very aggresive molecular structure that binds to brain neurons ..And force the person that they think this is something they cant live without

I like a drink occasionally. Bet the government won't pay for an alternative for me >:(
-
>:(Just read your post & was going to say your money went up her arm or wherever she could find a vein. You did right not to beat her even though she deserved it.
In my teens i took all sorts of powders & pills but NEVER injected anything. No excuses. They know what they're getting into the first hit they take & deserve no sympathy for the mess they get themselves into thereafter. This is'nt an inexperienced view, i've seen one friend die, one lose an arm below the elbow due to a "bad hit" and known of two i did'nt care about die in sqats or public toilets. What makes it worse is the first two were girls & i attended the funeral of one & watched her parents grieving. That puts a lump in the biggest mans throat. She was 26, a Mum, worked successfully as a french polisher. What a waste. Sad thing is i knew her before so saw it all.
I do'nt have the answers but smack is a rough trot & you're an innocent victim.
-
Hope you're OK
and next time be wary of Oirish accents not in sight of a caravan or flatbed truck
I'd find the little bitch and give her a clouting

Was this at Cardiff central James >:( It's a well known hotspot for the homeless, drunks ETC.
I have found in the past that the station personnel take a blind eye to vagrants pestering people out side at the cash points. Much the same thing happened to me in broad daylight about two years ago.
It's not a very good welcome into what is really a nice friendly City >:(
I always get off at Queen street and go into one of the main Banks off the high street now.
I don't know what the world is coming to :(

Oh Dear, things never change, remember a song by Stepenwolf called "God Dam the Pusher". One of the lines goes " I seen a lot of people walking around with tombstones in their eyes". Its so true, society is such that people who don't conform to the norm get made outcasts, no use to anyone. They get hooked on Drugs, and become a drain on society's resources. Who knows what they could become if they had the chance to full develop or avoid The Pusher. We repress cultures that are different and offer a totally different, in a lot of ways better, way of life because they don't conform to the norm that we live with. Witness the situation in Burma, and a bit further back Tibet, that was "anexed" by Chairman Mao and his croneys. We live in a society that is controlled by Computer, badly, but it makes life simple for the civil servants so thats it. Things have to change from the top down if we want to avoid an even worse situation.

Yes, it was very near the Central station mate. That's where I got off, and withdrew the wedge. from the said cashpoints.
I've been getting the train to Cardiff for 2 years without any problem, often late at night too due to my shift work. I then walk down to riverside. Like I say, I've never had a problem in Cardiff until now, however I've never been entirely comfortable with my walk. It's still better than driving though, because the train is A) Half the cost, with no bridge tolls, and B) Means I don't have to leave my Shiny new car in a dubious area!
I spent most of the afternoon at the police station yesterday... with some very friendly officers. And it looks like they've now got a lead that's going to result in an arrest :y
I must be careful what I say publically, but, The "bit of information" I mentioned in the first post.... is that when forcefully retrieving my wallet etc.. I was able to "retrieve" something else also, that has led the police to her identification. ;D
I was worried it would be frowned upon by plod, especially coupled with my forceful retrieval of my wallet....but thankfully, was applauded ::)

From Hucclecote as well - the motorway squad though were not fans of A or B roads

In my experience , the best thing to do is to keep on and keep on and keep on to the police as they can do things to catch people sometimes and dont (my next door neighbour a retired cop)
Insist they follow this up and make an attempt to find her.

James,
I've been off the forum all weekend (computer trouble), so I've only just read this.
I'm really sorry to hear of your mugging. I hope that the police make an arrest soon. :y
