At 6am, removed oil cooler from donor car in Cheltenham. the thread on the oil cooler itself broke on us whilst undoing, so that was that plan out of the window.
Drive to Kent anyway, about 200 miles. Realise 3/4 of the way there, we don't have the contact details for Bumbles with us.
Go to the sellers house, look at the car. Not at all as described, or as per the pics. The OSR door is completely rotton and has had an awful touch up, probably a mark on every panel. Tyres were described as "new" but 2 were bold on outer edge. On a plus point, alloys are mint, and the black leather is also the best I've ever seen.
Then we opened the bonnet. Straight away I was looking at the gas system. Two gas feeds going into the intake, just before the throttle bodies. So sequential my airse. It's a standard (mixer?) system, everything is labelled "Star*gas" lambda control.
Turned the key, started first time on petrol, ran fine, sounded very nice. Flicked to gas... bleh... died. "oh yes, said the seller, it doesn't like idling on gas, especially when cold".
Grrr.
Opened the cap for the header tank, and it was full. Unfortunately though, not full of coolant. It was brimmed with brown goo.
Managed to persuade them to lend us a hose, and gave it a dam good flushing outside their house.. got the cooling system as clean as we could. Oil on stick looked fine.
At this stage, I'd already decided it was only any good for bits, (because of the door, and mixer LPG)... so we said we'd chance it driving home.
Markie drove the beast, I followed in my facelift. It was OK on a run, but ran very hot in traffic. We did a detour on the way back due to getting lost... ended up going the wrong way (hence the long way) around the M25... she got V hot in the Dartford tunnel.
Anyhow, with several garage stops to flush the coolant system, we made it over 200 miles home...
It's now parked on the drive.
Not sure what to do with it now >:(

If I could just get it running on gas, I would feel better about stripping the gas off it.
Any ideas why it won't idle ?
It revs absolutely fine on gas, and will drive on it all day long, but won't flamin' idle!

Of course it's not a waste of money.
I could keep the rear end tank, valve and filler, which I need (and would be expensive new) and STILL make a profit breaking it, if the worst came to the worst.
Please dont comment on things you don't know about, and if you want to discuss money issues do it in PM, or even better, in person.
-
One option, is to keep the rear end, and then break the rest of the car in order to pay for a front end SGI kit. That WOULD be money well spent.

What do you think's up with the LPG will?
If I could get that running, fixing the rest is childs play....
-
as i see it, if the body is that poor then maybe worth breaking - and properly if you have space to store parts....
Its sad that these things rust so easy, and its also sad there worth more in parts....
Do you think you`d break even fixing and selling it bottom line ?

If I sell the leather, the cams, the cruise, the alloys and the blind, I've broken even....

There should be an idle adjust mixture screw on the evaporator.......I suspect, if its anything like the one on the estate, that the evaporator is full of gunk!

Is it OK to tweak that screw, (if I note it's original position?)
I've removed it and flushed it out entirely... a tiny amount of gunk, that's all...
-
James on the back of the evaporator, there should be 2 screw or nuts, large one sets the gas when runing the smaller one sets the gas for tickover, mixer type systems are just lke a large carburettor and require tweaking every now and then,
try screwing the smaller one in about half a turn and see if it will tickover, but please make any adjustments small , too many people just dive in and make huge changes and wnder why it wont run properly, its actually very sensitive!!!!
t just takes a few seconds to sort itself out, also not to sure but i think later systems made do with just one adjuster and were not so easy to set up!!

James evapourator doesnt have a vac pipe going to it like yours.....or mine....so i suspect there will be no adjustment on it.........if im correct and could be wrong.....theres an adustment valve in the pipework somewhere......seem to remember Craig telling me his adjusts on a valve. :-/....hes got a mixer type too

There seems to be an adjuster screw on the evaporator.. I'll post up a pic.... however there are also what look like some adjusters on the Y peice that splits the gas off into the two inlets...
-
Following my little dabble this Pm......clean the evaporator out fully first!

Hi James sorry but know absolutly nothing about lpg just wanted to say sorry it didnt turn out to be what you were expecting to find and if you had our number least you would have got a nice cuppa lolol. Hubby says what year etc is it as he may be interested in the leather if you were selling.

The Black leather in this car is near on mint, as are the door cards. It would slot into your M reg too (providing it's a saloon).
If I do break the car, and you want it, I'll even fit it for you.

Dismantle and check the evaporator as first stage
