Need to buy 4 tyres, size 235/45/17.
Have narrowed it down to:
Falken ZE 512
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric
Dunlop SP2000E
Toyo Proxy T1-R
Anyone used these on facelift Omegas? Comments?
Cheers all - Graham

My vote is on Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric. its better for rain than the other..
-
Not used any. Used Dunlop SP9090 on my MV6 (same size)
-
I used Michelin Primary - seem fine - thought this was the standard fit.
-
I used Michelin Primacy - seem fine - thought this was the standard fit.
They wear the best of all the above, a little more expensive though.
I've seen the Toyo's on good value but never tried.
-
I've got SP2000Es on mine. I found them a little bit noisier than the Primacys if anything but not anything to worry about, and good value. The fronts have been on there about 15k and seem to be wearing OK. Plenty of life left in them yet. A little inner shoulder wear but that's almost certainly a camber issue so off to WIM next week. Grip levels seem perfectly acceptable.

The fronts last forever.
Have been lucky to get any more than 15-18k out of any tyres on the rear of our estate. (Is under load from towing though)
-
I have Toyo's on my MV6 really good tyres but a little noisey :y
-
I find avon ZZ3's good too ... but they wear quickly ...
-
Got the Falken ZE 512's on mine and have lasted well , not bad in the wet but strangely enough feel odd occasionly on dry roads, but that could be just down to road surface as these wide tyres can give you some nightmares in the lorry tracks on motorways if you see what I mean, so, for the price not too bad a choice.
Cheers Pete

I currently run Goodyears and Conti's and both seem excellent.
I also have some Michelins on the rear of the V plate and they are rubbish, much to hard and poor on general grip. Yes they wear well but, its at the expense of general grip which is not a compromise I am willing to make.

Which model GY and Contis?
Ideally I want to spend around £80-£90 per corner fitted and balanced.
Thanks everyone! Anyone used the GY GS-D3s?
-
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
and
Contipremicontact
-
How are the GS-D3s for tramlining? Noise?
Cheers.
-
I have Continental Sport Contact2's all round, find them excellent!
Quiet, Grippy, and completely cured the tramlining I had before.

I too have a full set of Falkins on the Omega, they are a good enough grippy tyre all round for me, mine haven't worn to well though......... I'm needing a change soon and after only 13,000mls........ might be how i drive or the fact that most of that mileage has been done on twisty A-roads to work.
Also glad to hear I'm not the only one to have had a tramline issue with this make of tyre and to be caught out when least expecting it........... had the car checked about three times for tracking and lower suspension arms and each time being told is was most likely the tyres................................................guess i can believe them now.

I've had Falkens on my 2.5 estate for the last 3 years - just put new ones on £60 per corner(previous ones lasted about 25k plus some from the previous owner) . I've had no problems at all.
- my new Elite has 4 newish 'Barums' - never heard of them. Has anyone used these?
-
i use the Dunlop SP9090's and they are excellent.
so far i have had them on the car for about 10k and there is little sign of wear, in the past i was getting 10 out of a tyre and the inside edge was shredded.
Tyre noise is not too bad and grip is good, there are some twisty bends of the A38 that i like to drive at a moderate pace and they hold up pretty well
Cost me £85 per corner as well

235/45/17 have you got a 'V' rated tyre, the cheapest for this rating is about £107-00 ? :o
-
in your opinion guys, which are the Quietest tyres?
i have 3 worn tyres, will need to get some new ones in the next 3 months or so
im a sucker for no noise!!
i have Pirelli p1000 on my 1998 estate at the mo

Eagle F1 GSD3 are a great tyre, I had a set on my WRX STi and you could fair hoof it about even in the pissing rain! Chewed through them in 5,000 miles though :o You'd get more out of them on an Omega but I still think they're quite soft. Similar story with Toyo T1-R, good tyre but wear quickly.

Strangely, I have them on the back of the tractor, and thing they are poor, esp in the wet. I am tip-toeing round corners in the wet to keep the rear in check (no TC on tractor). Still, I suspect they won't last long ::)

No, mine are Z rated and still paid less that a ton per tyre
-
Yes, my 235/45ZR17 Dunlop 9090 were less tha a ton a corner fitted :y
-
Michelin Primacy seems to be taking a bashing - mine fitted a year ago - done 14000 miles - bags of tread left - bit of wear on inside so swapped them round - must get round to camber. Paid 93 quid each all in. First year car did 25000+ on same set - a lot of motorway though.
-
I payed about £380 for all four :y
Not cheap, but not bad either considering...
P1000! aren't they corsa type tyres? would have thought p6000 upwards!
-
..... Paid 93 quid each all in.....
Where from? The best quote I've had has been £123 each from Costco. Kwik-Fit wanted £312 for 2 including a supposed 15% discount.

I had some of these on my Cavalier as they were a cheap tyre £30 each ::)

I have Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 on rear size 235/45ZR17. Great tyre and wearing well. Much better than budget tyre on there before esp. in wet. Also much less noise. I would not compromise again.
-
Had GS-D3s on the rear uptill last Saturday and now have Toyos all round. There was about 4mm of tread left on the Goodyears but I have never been so glad to get tyres off a car. Don't know if it was due to the LSD, very little weight in the rear, torque comming in so low down or what but the regular step out even in the dry was getting dodgy, a problem I never had before changing from Toyos or since fitting them again and I have tried to get it out just in case it was something else but they are okay.
Tyre choice is always down to the individual and how they use them and a lot depends on where they are made as one country may have a different rubber compound to another, P7s jump to mind, so ther is always a degree of trial and error.

Well, I opted in the end for Goodyear F1 GS-D3s all round, costing £370 fitted and balanced from Protyre in Bristol. Tramlining effectively gone. Less noise. Very happy. :y
