Title: Help regarding anti theft device thing
Post by: bumbles5 on 19 October 2007, 21:51:22
Hey guys hope you can help with this our omega has what i assume is an antitheft device i.e when you unlock the doors you have to be quick in getting the key in the ignition to start the car otherwise nothing will happen not even the lights will come on. Up until a few days ago this hasnt been a problem but the past couple of days it has been a real pain no matter how quick we are at getting the key in and turned it is taking 8-10 times to get it to turn is there a way of bypassing this or disabling it at all.
thanks
mrs b

I dont know if this is right but I read somewhere that you can re set the key fob by sitting in the car and pointing it at the remote sensor, have a look in the drivers manual, it may say something in there.

the key fob is working fine thankfully it is just that the ignition wont turn on it is as though it has locked so we have to lock and unlock the doors and reinsert the key to try again and keep repeating the process until it will start it has only been the past couple of days and it is not all the time.

Having the same problem and I dont even have a remote :-?
it is as if the steering lock will not come off
check your key is it burred along the edges i.e. wear
I used some 3in1 oil on the key whilst partly inserted into the ignition
seemed to work ok after :y

Unless your car has been fitted with A N Other alarm/immobiliser you should be able to take all day between unlocking you car & turning the ignition on. The GM immobilisers use the chip in the key to talk to the car. I'd be thinking along the lines of a fault on the actual ignition switch/wiring as even if the car's immobiliser doesn't see or talk to the key's chip you will still get the initial dash lights etc when you turn the key.

I'm guessing its the IR type, flipping PITA they are.  It is possible to bypass immobiliser on these, obviously reducing the security of car in process...
