Title: Bagpipes collapse!
Post by: megaomega123 on 29 October 2007, 15:52:07
Car has felt a LOT down on power recently. Just been out to do a few checks. When I blipped the throttle to check the multi rams, both bagpipes collapsed and closed. This is the 2 that go to throttle bodies. The drivers side collapsed 1st and more vigorously than the passenger side. They close at about 5000 rpm and remain closed until the throttle is released.

The power issue has been acceleration from 5000 rpm upwards. Clearly there is a lack of air getting in  :(
Why have they started doing this and what is the resolve?

TIA

Yes I am. Would prefer to switch back to original air box but it got accidentally left behind when I moved.

Certainly sounds like the engine is looking for more air than the pipework can supply, hence the collapse.....

Does it do the same with the filter removed or simply not run?  Would help to narrow the cause down a bit...

WOW!!!! What a difference. May I just say, never underestimate the importance of a good clean air filter. Changed mine today and it has made a massive improvement. I was starting to wonder why crap cars were pulling away from me. When the engine s starved of air at 5000 rpm the performance is very poor.

Thanks for the diagnosis Broocie and thanks for the offer of the airbox James. I may still take you up on that at a later date.  :y
