A friend has an MV6 auto. What happens is sometimes when he takes off slow then gives it more beans it wont go accordingly - just picks up at the same rate. Sometimes when it changes gear but doesnt make it from 2-3 just changes from 2-2 (if you know what I mean?) But last night he rang me and said while he was driving in D @ 30 mph it was like it was in neutral, just rev'd up :( He wants me to take it off and strip it down for him - knowing I know jack about them ::)
I'm thinking a fluid and filter change is in order but I could be way off...
Any ideas? :y

Any warning lights? Sounds like it's in 'limp mode'

It's worth dropping the sumps off the gearbox to change the oil and filter, and while you're there have a look for any remains of a thrust washer sitting in the oil.
There's a howto regarding the gearbox thrust washer problem in the howtos section.

;) Remember only about half the auto fluid is in the sump (the rest is in the torque converter) ie to change all the fluid you need to do 3 sump changes ( you need about 12 litres of fluid ).
It is well worth the expense as good fluid can make a 'BIG' difference to the auto box.
