Title: Fitting a superchip
Post by: Not A Salmon on 04 November 2007, 21:36:29
OK, I've got hold of a superchip for my car but having spent a little time familiarising myself with the engine bay (ie standing there looking at it blankly) I can honestly say I have no idea where the bloody thing goes.
I'm sorry, I know it sounds REALLY dense but I'm not really very mechanically minded :-[
I've looked throughloads of the previous threads on here but can't find anything to help, and having looked at the engine bay pics on here I still can't see where it goes. I may just be going blind though  :o

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(It's the X30XE engine)

The main engine ecu is located in the triangular shaped box next to the battery. the ecu is silver in colour. I take it that is where the chip is fitted.

Ahhhh. I did look in there, but couldn't see anything that looked like an ECU (ie not like a normal relay or fuse) but first thing tomorrow I'll be back out there and fettling- and this time I know what I'm looking for  :y

Bloody great silver thing with a rather big connector on left side of box. Can't miss it...

I cannot stress how careful you need to be when fitting that you dont bend the pins...
Use a flat head driver to slowly ease out the old one (tad one side - tad the other etc) then make double sure ALL the pins sit perfectly in the holes before pushing it in by force...
Then enjoy  :y

IrmscherKris - Where's the protection board? It won't work without it.

What's a protection board? You just remove the old chip and fit the new one...

Post a pic of inside your ECU

Likely to be a rip off of a chip that someone else has developed (they're very easy to copy and very difficult to develop in the first place) hence you'll be buying it from someone who likely doesn't understand what they're selling. That's fine if it works but don't expect them to be able to support it.
