2002 3.2 MV6 Auto
The Exhaust Emission warning light came on yesterday when driving along. I know my back box needs replacing as it's blowing, is this why the light has come on or could there be another reason?
Cheers, Neil
Update: Just been for another drive and it's still on today. :-/

I wouldn't have thought a knackered back box would cause that :-/
-
Neither would I - I recommend you get the fault codes read...

Plugs!

I had this problem and it was just a vacuum pipe.

Lamp will stay on until you've had 20 starts without fault logged.
Really need to get the codes read to make diagnosis.

A few of us have had the same thing me VXL and Elite Pete i think and we all have 3.2. Mine is on and off. had it check as it could have been one of the 02 sensors of which they are 4 on the 3.2 and only 2 on the 3.0. Have you changed your petrol over or ran very low on petrol as this is what puts mine on most or the time.
Hope of some help

+ possibly Bob Dent
Codes need to be read to confirm though.

I was running low on fuel when it sparked up, showing only 30 miles left in the tank when it came on.
I always dread the thought of taking the car into somewhere to get something like this checked....I think it'll always end up being expensive even if it's only a minor fault. How much does it cost to get the codes read?
I just don't trust garages! :-/
If it resets after a certain number of starts, is it worth waiting to see if the light goes out before taking to the doctors??

You could do or if you are ever over Solihull way I can reset it for you.

That was something that my 3.2 never suffered from :)

That's great, thanks. Im not too far away so may take you up on your kind offer.
Do you have a garage or diagnostic equipment then?

No nothing so grand i'm afraid, just have a device called an 'opel scanner' which can scan, clear codes and test modules on VX, Saab, Daewoo etc
I think even a cheap eBay code reader (roughly £20) will reset the code but they seem to require you to be able to read Hungarian!

Update;
Light went out yesterday, no idea what the cause was. As my exhaust is falling to bits, is it possible that somehow the exhaust flow was temporarily blocked through one of the pipes by flaking metal?

Light out is good news! :y
