Title: Engine Cuts Out

Hi guys, Gr8 site
The problem I have.
When driving my car for a little while, it will cut out but will start straight away and th EML comes on and will not cut out again. I did the paperclip test and gave me codes of 0100-Mass Airflow Sensor, 0335-Crank Sensor, 0340-Camshaft Sensor.
I don't know if the codes were ever reset before I got them.

Can anyone please help.

Hi, Dazzie, and welcome to the site.

Judging by your codes, I guess you have a 2.0L ?

If so, first check your Breather System and fix as required iaw
this link. It's a very common problem on 2.0L's.

Out of your codes, the one I would be worried about is the Crank Sensor.
I would change this.

The other codes may be being brought on by your stalling, or air leaks
for the MAF.

When you've done the breathers, see if you are rev limiting (if you're
still getting the EML light on), which will tell you if the crank or cam sensor
codes are likely to be genuine.

Report back with results or any questions. Wealth of experience on this site
for your problem.

The 2.0l will not flash out the cam and crank once fixed.  Look at replacing these. Cam sensor is easy, but the crank is a pig if you have A/C

Thanks guys I will try this at weekend. I forgot to say my car is a 2.0L 16V Auto. Can be a little thirsty gat about 22mpg. Can this be improved on.

hi having fun with the crank sensor change!!! they're worse on vectra's! 22mpg dont sound too bad, my 3.0 elite's re-mapped and i get 15, 16 mpg at best!

22mpg seems a bit too low, I would be expecting nearer 30, maybe more on a run.  May be worth recalculating afetr the breather clean and sensor renewal.

Hi, I didn't do crank sensor, I couldn't find it,  Images, diagrams and instructions would be a gr8 help.

You can't see it, Dazzie.

Put your hand on the oil dipstick tube. Run your hand down until you
meet the crankcase. Feel forward, towards the front of the engine,
approx 2". You will feel the sensor.

Several of us have changed it using different methods.

I removed the heat shield from the exhaust manifold and changed
it by touch.

Vectrolysis removed the LH engine mount and did it from underneath.

TaxiDriver had his changed by removing the oil dipstick tube and changing
it from the top, same as me.

When I next have to do mine again, I will do it the same way but will
remove the oil dipstick tube to improve access.

Where is the plug end.

If you look at the top half of your cambelt cover, you'll see the
cable coming up from behind your power steering pump and run
round the top of the cambelt cover, clipped into position with built
in lugs. Just follow the cable until you find it's plug, usually somewhere
above the alternator.
