The remote central locking system/alarm keyfob on my 1998 Omega 2.0 saloon has just given up the ghost. I have replaced the battery and tried to resynchronize the remote control, but with no success.
I can still lock and unlock and drive the car, but, of course, the alarm goes off every time I open the car until I have switched on the ignition.
What is my cheapest and easiest way of sorting this out? If I need to have a new key fob, I believe this is going to be £150+ from Vauxhall (especially as the Car Pass wasn't with the car when I bought it 5 years ago!). This is also the only key fob I have for the car.
How easy is it to disconnect the alarm and would this mean having to disconnect the immobiliser as well? I would be very happy to lose the alarm, as it only ever goes off when it's not supposed to (regularly in the summer during the day), but I need to keep the immobiliser working for insurance purposes.
I'm certainly no car DIY expert, so would probably have to take it somewhere to get this done - I presume a garage wouldn't have a problem with this. Any suggestions of where to take it in/near Weymouth, Dorset?

do you mean the alarm is going off when you open the door with the key in the lock ?
if so this is normal

Funny how we posted a similar probelm in the same few seconds!!!
Don't know if it's normal or not, but you can stop the alarm ever going off:
If you know what a 'Scuttle' is (I still don't :-[ :-[) then under the drivers side one is a square black 'power sounder' you can unplug - SirCarigR just let me know - so thanks to him for the solution. See 'that bloody alarm' thread on this forum for more.

this question is alittle different to yours mate
the omega has two alarms a horn alarm and a power sounder
Graeme29 is asking if its possible to stop the alarm going off when he enters his car by using the key to open the lock, the alarm on all omegas gos off if you enter the key into the lock and open the door its switch off by putting the key in the Ignition
He could unplug both alarms under the scuttle but the indicators would still flash and i would not like my car parked up without any alarm on it and i dont think your insurance would either.
But it is possible to stop it sounding the alarm and not having any

Oh well, it was my first ever 'answer'!!! All my other posts have been questions! Thought I'd try to give a little back :)
Ask me anything you like on missfires though, I've become quite the expert!! ;D

When I bought my car a year ago it only came with 1 key, so I thought it wise to get a spare.
I did find them on ebay, but in the end bought a new one from a dealer - I think it was about £80ish plus another £20 to get it programmed to the car.
One other dealer I asked wanted to charge me £45 to program it - when I said that I knew it was a quick job for them and why should I pay so much when I'd just bought the key from them, the parts guy wouldn't budge so I shopped around.

Where are you? Some of us have the ability to program replacement fobs ;)

have been caught like that myself, i have 2 fobs for my car one does not work at all, and the other can be set up then the next day it does not work any more and has to be set up again, i bought another fob of off ebay and it all lights up but i cant get it to work on my car?

Thanks to all who responded for the help and advice. Turns out the problem was connection from battery holder into circuit board in key fob. LED came on when I held battery down, but didn't when I re-assembled key fob (to be honest, I thought LED had stopped working ages ago). Couple of bits of sticky tape seems to have sorted it (for now at least!) and I didn't even have to resynchronise - remote worked straight away.
Great to know this forum exists!
