How do you get the fault codes from the ABS Control unit? Is it the same as the paperclip test ?
Thanks

Tech1 if pre 97, or tech2 for all.
No way of flashing out codes.

Thanks, back to the Garage, more pennies. Perhaps the wife is right, sold a dud and time to cut loss and get rid

What year is it?
Also, anyone from the forum near you with the equipment to read ABS?

Oh bugger.
I guess either the lights are on, or you have no speedo/assisted steering?

BBA Reman can test/repair an ABS ECU on a 5-day turn round for around £125 .. give them a ring on

I have no link to this company other than extreme satsifaction at the service I got from them 10 days before being due to depart on a 3 week touring holiday of France !! Without their help I would not have been able to go ... and yes .... we had a great time thankyou :) !!

If it is the ABS unit failed, if you can live without the car for a few days, I know Marks_DTM wanted to get his soldering iron out on one to see why they keep failing. Might be worth contacting him :-/

This is where the problem is >:(, the ABS light comes on and the car runs fine :). If the ABS light does not come on now power on initial pullying away :( Still have speedo/assisted steering either way.
I am totally confused :-?

Doesn't sound like the normal failure symptoms. Sounds like traction control is being invoked as soon as you pull away, and eventually it figures out soemething's wrong and goes into limp-home whereby you have normal power.
Have you checked the ABS wheel sensors?
Can't remember if a cheapo Tech 2 will read the ABS/TC codes but I have one (in Alton, so not too far away) if you want to try. Failing that a visit to TheBoy might be in order.

It was pointed out when the car was serviced that the ABS sensors on the back axel were missing their securing bolts, have just been down to Vauxhall and got two so will fit them at the weekend. But as this has justed happened with the ABS light I dont hold out much hope. If it does not work then I will have to pop down and see you in sunny Alton.

Jaime, you rekoned my ABS sensor had gone?
I don't get the light on, just a dogey speedo reading.... used to flip up and down erratically. Now its just dead. Along with dogey speed assist steering.

Cheapo Tech2 has ABS/TC on the menu, but not all menu options work (apparently different options work on different cars...) so in theory the answer is yes, in practice it is pot luck...

The version I run does (custom)......but then it has most of the fault code sets behind it.

That what confuses me, no abs and tc lights for me, cruise still works! Just no power asssit steering and no/dogey speedo reading.
Why i suspected speed sensor on the autobox.

Suspect what you like....you would be wrong in this case.
Autobox speed sensor connects to the autobox only.......and I guess the autobox is working fine.
Have you checked the cabin fuses, is the speed dependent volume working on the radio, what about the average speed on the MID?

lol the car will barely make it off the drive with the gearbox, it wines and screeches. Need to get it replaced. Not driven it in ages so can't remember
