Huh Have recently picked up the Yank version (Catera) of the V6 with 77k miles. Needed the cam cover gasket job and breathers fixed. Followed the brilliant guidelines on the site and car still has a clear miss. I am waiting on the new coil to arrive. During service installed new plugs and wires. On the way home last night all was well till I pulled off the motor way and came to a stop at the light. Heard a bell and the oil light came on. Panic - nursed it out of traffic and noticed the oil pressure fluctuating. Checked the oil all was well - no foam and level good. tried to nursed it the four miles home seemed to have plenty of power no smoke but parked it as soon as I arrived. Have been scowering the site for help possible oil cooler failure? Life is very complicated right now could sure use some direction to get the vehicle back on the road rapidly.

I doubt it's the oil cooler. Normal symptoms of that are oil in the coolant. It doesn't normally restrict oil flow.
My guess would be that the oil pressure relief valve in the oil pump has stuck open.
Could be a defective oil pump or a blocked pickup strainer but I'd check the relief valve first.

If I remember correctly the yank version has an oil pressure gauge in the instrument panel... which is nice.
A fluctuation in the oil pressure can result form a failing oil pump, but is could also be due to temporary blockage of one of the oil ways or filter. I would definitely start with an oil and filter change asap, and then keep an eye on the oil pressure gauge.
If finally you do suspect the oil pump, then you should get the oil pressure checked by a proper mechanic's gauge and not just rely on the one in the dashboard.

Thank you very much gents, I have really come to rely on your top drawer information. I realized I need to run to the parts house to get a larger Torax socket for the oil tap. Knock wood I don't have to do the pump. The task is not as challenging as finding the time right now.

Good news. Keep an eye on it though. If the relief valve is getting sticky it may rear its' ugly head again.
Could just be a dodgy pressure switch perhaps?
