pull off a plug lead and look for oil in the plug wells.if yes then cam cover gaskets are buggerd and the burning smell is oil. :y

Check them again, were the breathers cleaned at the time they were done as if not they may have blown again. check all leads have been pushed on to the plugs  and there are no signs of any vac pipes off. Do you have the EML on  :question

Burning smell but not oil?
Has it lost any water? If so then its likely to be the heater bypass valve which is leaking coolant onto hot exhaust and also onto the coil pack and plug leads. ( when you select full cold on the climate, the HBV closes off the hot water flow to the heater, if the HBV is on its last legs then it can fail suddenly when "playing" with the climate controls)

And how can you tell it's missing on the 2-4-6 bank by listening to it?

If it's missing it's unlikely to be one bank anyway. More likely a pair of cylinders on opposite banks due to a duff coil pack.

If the dealer sold you a car that has a warranty and you are carless as a result of the cars failings then you should insist on him lending you a car to use until it is sorted mate.
