Title: Alloy repair...?
Post by: The Cambelt Kid on 16 December 2007, 21:16:50
Anyone know if it's possible to repair an alloy with a very slight dink on the inside on the rim?

I just bought a set of facelift elite rims inc tyres and one of the rims had a very slight dink on the inside.  I thought it'd be ok but i was as flat as a pancake this morning, so i guess it's not  :(

I hear that it's possible to repair them but am unsure whats what.  ie: Can small kinks be ironed out at all? and how much does this kind of work cost?

I'm in Derby/Notts area, so anyone know of a dcecent repair comapany?

Cheers in advance.

if it is not to bad get a tyre repair place to seal around the dent to stop it from leaking and put on the rear of the car and it should be ok

Tried this as i took them to get them balanced up before fitting them.  The guy removed the tyre and re-fitted with some black liquid rubber around the dink.  I thought this'd be ok but would seem not.

If the dink was any smaller i think this would have been ok...

I need some scratches taking out too so i really want to get this sorted  by a pro is poss.

Cheers

We have a guy ere in Bradford who repairs em, I had a big dent in one of mine due to huge pot hole, the tyre was shot but the rim was repaired done a very good job too, he fitted the tyre and had it balanced, £25 for the repair, my other expense was the tyre £128, bloody low profiles :-?

Thats not too bad, i can live with that.

I'll ring around for such a guy in nottingham tomorrow.  Thankfully i have a spare MV6 alloy i can use while it's in repair.

Cheers

Depending on how brave you are, a lump hammer and a block of wood can have a similar, albeit more crude, effect.

Apparently 'tis better to start with light strikes and build up and keep the tyre on the rim when idiotting it as it stops the rim going too far.....   ;)
