Title: Deal of the century...........
Post by: Malachi on 17 December 2007, 14:47:42
Well I don't know what to do so thought I would make an offer:

I am looking for someone to help fix my 98 mini-facelift 2.5 V6 CDX,

The current faults are:
Autogearbox failure - 10A fuse blowing so something is drawing extra current when putting foot down
Right hand Heated wing mirror not working
Drivers door lock sticking - probably lazy motor
Says one rear brake light out , tried replacing but still showing so maybe the circuit.

I have another 2.5 V6 elite that has working parts of the ones above that need replacing but I wouldn't know where to start on swapping a gearbox over.

In return the person can have:

1999 2.5 V6 Auto elite - yes my other car minus any bits that might need to be used to fix my CDX, the reason why I want to keep my CDX is that is has newer suspension, brakes etc.

the details of the Elite are:
98000
Black - some paint cracking on drivers door
Black leather interior  - in great condition
12 Month MOT
No Tax
Power steering fluid needs replacing - random cut out sometimes
Some idiot in the past replaced the Xenons with projectors but still legal to pass MOT
Original Radio replaced with Blaupunkt with intergrated CD player
All usual Electrics
Thatcham Approved Clifford Alarm - worth a good few hundred by itself, includes remote start, remote stop and Anti - Carjacking, still have booklet with PIN for this so if some clever person wants to swap this over to another car they can do so, reduces insurance by upto 20%.
It has alloys and legal tyres however they are the alloys off my CDX as I swapped them over.

If possible I would also like an overview of servicing.

If anyones interested then let me know even if your not interested in the other car but would be willing for a price let me know the price & I'l get back to you. Thanks

Malachi

Cheers

I know freezing down here too, how hard is it to do a gearbox change, is there any guides around as I can't seem to find one.

Oh and the brake light has been fixed though I've thieved a bulb out of the elite.

Chris - if it comes to it I'l let you know I'm scrapping it.

why change the autobox when there are only 5 electrical components in the box, all easily got at! assuming of course that the problem is in the box

My thoughts exactly. Might even be something else on that fuse, if it does power any other circuits.

I would have thought the drivers on the outputs of the gearbox ECU would have current limiting so if anything did short in the 'box it would give you a fault code rather than just blow the fuse.

I'd be looking for something electrical first. Could well be a bit of wire chafed bare or a problem in the selector switch IMHO.

driver door > mine was same ,you need take the cover out and use grease ..will sort
rear brake lights > the cable passes from a problem route and is generally broken  on the baggage left inside part (sorry for English)

Is there a guide somewhere detailing how to check the wiring & selector switch, I'm thinking something could be shorting as twice now I've had to jump start it and its also starting stalling sometimes whilst idling, if anyones got any idea's of where to start looking would appreciate it.

Brake lights been fixed, recommendations what's the best grease to use for lubrication? Also should I be worried about white smoke out of the exhaust, only really appeared as its got colder.

Is it really smoke? If it's white and more obvious in the cold, it could well be moisture - do you have to keep topping up coolant?

Could be sign of a bit of leakage in the oil/water / head gasket area?
