Title: Retro-Fitting Traction Control ?
Post by: jules on 21 December 2007, 09:46:07
Is it possible / easy to retro-fit tc into a 1999 2.0 CDX ?

ALA Installing cruise control easy ?

What would I need?

I doubt it would be possible. Traction control relies on the ABS ecu talking to the engine ECU and I doubt that support is built into the 2.0 engine ECU. In addition, I think ABS modules that support traction control have extra valves to apply the rear brakes so that would need to be changed too.

It isn't a real benefit anyway, TBH. Yes, it might stop a complete muppet from getting into a V6, hoofing it round a roundabout and wrapping it round a lamp post but I'd rather control it manually for 99% of my driving. It did really help me out when I had to drive my Omega up a grassy field at about a 1 in 3 gradient. Beat my mate in a 4x4 up there so it does a superb job in the most unusual circumstances, but if you stay on the tarmac it's not worth having, IMHO.

No chance on 2.0 I'm afraid.

Cruise easy enough, though the 2.0 cruise cables are rare 2nd hand...

Yet to see an aftermarket that 'integrates' well.  I'd pick up the real thing 2nd hand, but be prepared to buy new cable :(
