Generally about 92.5 I believe although it will rise in stationary traffic.

Normal operation ie air conditioning on, 85-90, or half way up the scale. It should be pretty stable with these air temperatures, will not vary much with power.

If you push the eco button, or your a/c is u/s then your front fans will not run and temperature may increase when stationary. In summer the engine will run noticeably warmer in this condition.

You should get to temperature fairly quickly, if not - thermostat.

Mike,
I'm intrigued by this.  I assume you are referring to your facelift car as the prefacelift guage doesn't go down to 85 and mid way I think would be 95.   Do facelifts run cooler?

Cheers,

Ian

Ian,

The simple answer seems to be yes, I have just been out and checked our two gauges.

2.6, lowest line would be 70, but not marked with number. First figure is 80 and 90 is about halfway.

2.5 mini facelift, lowest line probably 85, not numbered. Halfway is about 95.

Both tend to run just below halfway, so facelift is a bit cooler.

Mike.

Remember prefacelift and facelift have different gauges ;)

It should run just under mid-point on gauge, rising to just over mid-point in traffic before the fans cool it back down...

Yes I agree,,, 90 - 95 is about the desired,,  mine sits smack on 92.5..  rising just over 95 if lugging a load in the heat..

Thanks all its 1997 model mini facelift?

It runs around the half way point never really over unless you give it some stink then maybe it will rise over a little.

Was just wondering as there's a little mayo in the oil filler neck but none on the dip stick

My 2002 2.2cd runs at 90 except when stopped in traffic then it creeps up to 100, should that be something i should be concerned about.
I was told the thermostat was changed when the head gasket was done earlier this year

If its mini facelift, its actually a 1998 model (last letter in VIN is a W).  If last letter in VIN is V or less, its pre mini facelift.

If it goes much above 97C, even after a good thrashing, I would be flushing and checking cooling system.

Mayo on cap? Lots of short journies?  Vx own semi synth seems less prone to mayo that many other brands, inc the 'premium' brands.  And its dirt cheap on TC ;)

I do my oil every 3 - 4k, and use Vx semi (£30 for 4 x 5l on TC), for the cost and time it takes, well worth doing :)

If the temperature is rising noticeably in traffic, are you running with the air conditioning turned off? In that condition you have no front fans running, no airflow when stationary so it will run hotter.

I agree with TB's comments - I do my oil every 2k usually, and filter every 4k. This is a bit over the top, but it's so cheap on trade club, and it keeps my engine squeaky clean :y
