Hi all, not sure if anyone can help....
Purchased a lovely 2.6 cdx about a month and a half ago and its had persistent wheel vibration problems. The following has been checked and in perfect running order.
1) Wheels are perfectly balanced and tracking has been done
2) New tyres
3) Wheels are not buckled
4) Wheel bearings are good
However between 60-70 I get a vibration not major but noticable and moreso under load - it appears to be on the front wheels?
I have heard the locking wheel nuts can make a difference - could I remedy this by taking them off? would it make a difference?
Best wishes and happy Xmas

check all your tyre pressures, then maybe complete re-balanced?
all wheel nuts correctly tightened? (but not over tightened, and not with nut gun like lazy tyre places use)
my knowledge is limited, others may have better answers

Check that the wheels/tyres really are round, I've had a couple of new tyres that had slight flat spots.
Swap wheels front to back and see what changes.
It could just be poor balancing, my 2.6 had several attempts after one tyre change to remove vibration.

Hi
this a balance issue..When I buy the car it had the same problem..And the balance shops blame the old tires..
After many experience I understand the alloys have problems and the tires are not correctly positioned (for correct position they
must be turned around the alloy or rim for minimum weight requirement..There are advanced shops and machines that balance
also vertical tire movement..Another important issue is that some shops after balance with weights check the result turning the tire
on car (car lifted) and re-balance again.Just at the moment when the wheels are turning you can hold the steering wheel and see if
its ok or not (speed must reach minimum 70 km /h) ..Trust me even with new tires and alloys you can have balance problem ..
Important points
* for balance if the weight requirement is more than 20 gr the wheel must be deflated and turned around the rim...
* The alloys or rims must have perfect correct shape..And their mesurements must fit the car exactly..
for omega the alloys must be 5 * 110..

I had a problem of vibration on steering at 70 to 80 MPH. Had every damn thing that could be checked and re checked an rebalanced. Nearly drove me mad.
Eventually found problem was on rear nearside tyre. seems it would start to go oval at speed, some sort of tyre internal problem.
Check your rear tyres if youv'e tried everything at the front end.

Try getting the balance done at another garage.. had mine done 18 mths ago, still wobbling, had them done at another garage, was OK....
My mate had a 4 mth old Focus, needed tyres, had new Avon's fitted and balanced at the same place that I first went to... Wobble Wobble... Had them re done elsewhere.. all OK It seems that their balancer is out of calibration..

Yep, found the same issue with my alloys, turned out one of the tyres had a flat spot, all were removed and refitted warm by an alloy wheel specialist, no more problems after that.
:y
Must say though, nothing can be done about the flat spot.

A member on here posted some time ago about balancing problems and it was a problem with the holes for the studs being ever so out of position. He took the car to Kwik Fit iirc and they have a five point adaptor that can be used to hold the wheel in place in order to balance perfectly.
In my opinion it sounds like one of the rears is out of balance. You could fit the spare and see if it stops, to isolate which wheel it is, or the weights may have fallen off if they are stuck on the inside - mine did!

Hi Chris,
Have a very close look at each tyre just to see if they are mounted on the alloys correctly, also to see if any has a flat spot in the makings. If they all look OK, try changing the fronts to backs and see if you still have the same problem :y
Merry Xmas and a safe New Year.
