Just got a call of Mrs Tony H "the cars broken down" on double yellow lines!! :o managed to go and see whats up it was almost dark but it looks like the aux. belt tensioner pully has collapsed. tried to limp home but only managed about a mile before the temp went ape sh*t. parked it up for the night. Just what I need on Christmas eve NOT.
Anyone give me a heads up on sorting it out please?
Thanks in advance
Happy Christmas to everyone :)

Aux Belt drives waterpump so will cause problems when coolant temp rises.
Tensioner pulley (If it's just the pulley wheel) can be replaced in situ, Spanner or socket + Torque wrench on pulley hub bolt, pull back towards nearside to release tension then unhook belt (easiest to slip it off over waterpump), return tensioner to relaxed position and unbolt pulley.
New Pulley about £25.00 from dealer and tighten back up to 40Nm
I have an old pulley and belt if you get really stuck but not local to you!

The pulley and its bearing are available without having to change the whole tensioner. One nut in centre of pulley, 14 mm I think.
Has the aux belt been changed recently? There have been problems with some being too short, putting excess strain on the bearings. If it won't go on without undue force with tensioner at maximum clockwise rotation, it's probably the wrong belt.

Thanks for the replys chaps the belt hasn't been replaced recently and I think the problem is due to pully not bearing failure but I will be sure when I look at it in daylight tommorow :y

Before restarting, if the belt is off, it might be worth checking that the water pump and alternator etc spin round OK.

It's a 15mm spanner you'll need - not always in every socket set.

Managed to limp the car home this morning. As suspected it looks like the tensioner has seized causing the outer pully which is plastic to reach a meltdown state that has fubard the belt. As advised I have checked the water pump and alternator whilst the belt is off and all seems well :y
Does any one know the part numbers and price of the belt and tensioner, also are they available on trade club?
Thanks in advance,
Regards Tony.

Aux Belt - 93181720 £28.35 (£17.50 on Trade Card)
Tensioner (Pulley) - 9157962 £22.50 (£20.26 on Trade Card)
I'm not sure of the part number for the complete tensioner assembly, sorry!
