Hello Folks,
Merry Christmas and happy new year!
Started getting 'Brakelight' & CHECK on the display on the drive back from the in-laws om Thursday
Checked, checked again and all three lights fine and dandy. Keep getting the message and it keeps disappearing.
Is this the start of something more grim or is it a common problem (driving a 98 CDX Estate)?
Where do I start to look and what am I looking for?
Any info much apprieciated

Sounds like the resistance in one of the bulbs is failling although bulb will still illuminate.Had a similar problem a few years ago with my previous cdx..eneded up replacing all brake/rear bulbs with Genuine GM bulbs and problem cured..seems strange why only GM bulbs seem to cure as they look identical to the Halfords type, but they didn,t cure it..best of luck and take a trip to local stealer for bulbs

Ok I'll give that a go!
Cheers!

Keep changing the brake light until you find a couple of bulbs that the MID is happy with... or better still get Vx bulbs.
-
Any idea who makes the Vx bulbs, it would be good to buy them cheaper than Vx if possible

I always use Halfords bulbs....my mid seems happy with them 8-)
-
i use lucas bulbs, mid seems to shut up once they have those

It's worth checking and if necessary cleaning up the lamp holders in the rear light clusters. A poor connection to the bulb could be the culprit.

Do you also find your cruise control fails with poor brake lamps?
-
BMWs tend to behave the same (I used to have one).
Ended up buying bulbs from the stealer... 2 bulbs probably cost me £2.30 instead of £1.99 in Halfords. If it cures the problem, getting items that work, I'd pay the extra - I'm guessing it can't be that much dearer.

last time I bought a bulb from the dealers I went in at 11.55 am, the parts bloke said he had turned the computer off so give us 50p. :y
