Title: coolant flush issues
Post by: mark.adams on 04 January 2008, 13:14:41
Guys,

I'm following the (excellent) guide on here, undid the red screw cap to drain water out and nothing comes out, i even gave the engine a little kick over to persuade it and nothing, coolant tank is up to level, anything i can do to persuade the water out?

Remove the yellow filler cap.. (need to allow air in to get fluid out)

coolant cap removed already, cant undo red cap any further, its loose and flapping about and still nothings coming out.
Should i replace yellow cap and run engine for a minute?

Keep un-screwing the drain plug whilst pulling it....it should come all the way out...

yes it should!

was the red tap very tight?  I wonder if there is a seal on the back of it that has stuck..   It should drain from the black nozzle just around the corner from the red tap - not blocked is it?

now i've pulled the red tap right out, there are 2 black seals further down it and i ran a tie wrap thru the drain exit and out from where the red tap unscrewed from, still no water :-[

Cant get to the clip on the bottom hose at the radiator, its one of those squeeze together ones, took the other end of the bottom hose off instead, water pi$$ing out now, maybe the bottom of my rad is full of gunk?? i'm flushing it through now

It sounds like it is.....watch for copper type flakes....thats the sign of a headgasket bodge additive.

How about taking off an accessable hose from the top while the rad drain tap is out & using an air-line to try & blow the sh1te out?
(depends really if you have an air-line at home I suppose  :-/)

Def, coolant system designed for single amounts of PSI... 80 PSI from an airline - it could go up like a,,, well, overpressurised.. thing!  :o

Luckily i don't have a pressurised air line at home.
I'm still not happy with the heat output from my mig. Have to wait for another day now as its raining and freezing.

I wasn't thinking of making a completely air tight connection to a part of the cooling system. ;) More like shoving the air nozzle down the 'accessable hose' and just squeezing it together around an air gun with maybe a rag in there too.
You could always blow by mouth...  :o
