Title: Brake Pad Wear Sensor

Need to source a pair of wear sensors..

I just phoned my local factor who asked if I had Lucas or ATE pads.
Off hand I don't know. I recall the early 2L's had a different pad but thought everything else was the same.

So can anyone advise what my 2.5 '98 will have? or how I can find out?

think yours are the ones with the white connector 144N

I think the pads are the Lucas type but would be great if someone could confirm.

My 2001 car has just one sensor on the passenger side, but I think that pre-facelifts i.e. up to 2001 have two, one on each side.

That is clearly a pack of 2.  Is that 6.50 TC for each pack or per each sensor?

My factor is quoting £6.60+vat for a pair but I need to tell him Lucas or ATE.  Currently I think they are Lucas but not sure how to confirm short of taking a wheel off. (not even sure I'll know then..)

Visually check pads - have 2 x 1998 Elite autos, one has lucas, the other ATS!!!  It only takes a couple of minutes!

Lucas has spring on "top" part of pad, ATS pads have "ears"
Click link on first reply - 1st lot of pads are lucas, next type going down is ATS.
Hope that clarifies.

Prices quoted are for EACH sensor, but they are sold in packs of two... if that makes sense. Unless your Vx dealer is happy about breaking the pack and selling them individually (mine wasn't).

I remember now what a pain these sensors are.

What I don't get is where the white plastic turns through 90 degrees this fouls on the caliper piston when you swing the caliper up off the pad carrier.  The piston slides off the back of the pad but then contacts the sensor and tries to either drag the pad out with it or more likely destroy the sensor.    It seems impossible to detach the sensor from the pad before removing the caliper per Haynes as the sensor is sandwiched between pad and disk..?

It turns a straightforward job into a very fiddly one.    Anyone got any ideas about this?  For now I have shorted out the sensor cable.
