::)Hi
I have just fitted a replacement engine in my 2001 2.5 cdx. All the sensors, wiring loom, diss unit etc fitted from original engine. Replacement purchased from a reputable salvage dealer with guarentee. Inspected car the engine came from (1999).
The problem is it will not start. The engine turns over no problem, there is fuel, pulled a plug lead and there was no spark.
Could it be the alarm/ immobiliser or something completely different.
I have been playing with these cars for years and done a number of engine transplants but never had this problem before. ::)
Cheers

have you done a paperclip test? the replacement engine may have a duff crank sensor.
read the codes, if you get a 19, thats your problem :y
-
did you change the ecu, if so, is the eml flashing (assuming bulb works) - immobiliser is coded to ecu
-
Hi
The ecu is the original one never had to change one before with an engine change.
Have done the paper clip test and the results are
12
12
12
144
144
144
31
31
31
Each set of numbers came up three times per rotation.
When the light flashed four times there was a pause and then another four.
is the result 144 or 18 ?
Cheers

144 is immobiliser realted. Is the EML flashing when you turn ign on
-
Have you been opening up keys? That's how I'd managed to lose the transponder chip from one of my keys. Which was another reason I couldn't get it to satrt. :-[

Hi Thanks for the reply's.
No the EML does not flash and no I have not had the key apart.

Hi
Have spoken to Vauxhall and they have told me that it is an imobiliser problem they think??
-
I assume you have used the original ECU, immobiliser and key.....in which case it cant be.
-
Hi
As I do not know the year of the new engine I have used all the original sensors ECU etc. the only thing changed was the basic engine.
-
Its not immobliser then.....I assume the obvious has been checked....all connections, spark plug leads in the right holes on the dis pack, all supplys connected up......the three earths on the back of the 2-4-6 head connected.....
-
I had the same issue when I transplanted a 2.0 engine once.
Turns out, after a LOT of faff, that the transponder had fallen outta the key!!

Re what I posted before. I'd got my shed running but when I was persuading the 'new' gearbox in, as I was sat on the floor I found a chip. :-?

The electrics 'reset' themselves.
