I'm sat in my suite on the broadband.......(its 10.15 here)

The driving here is 'interesting' and all the Taxis look like Ford Anglias or petrol powered wheel barrows. I did see a road roller but, god knows what bit of road its been used on coz I certainly haven't seen it.

They don't have big cars here, don't they they would fit......the only thing that truly works appears to be the Horn on the cars (used as an indicator, a warning, a thank you....a caffeine replacement!)

You'll also be paying luxury tax e.g., sit down toilet and Toilet roll, colour TV ETC.. just don't go to sleep without your trousers and T-shirt on, as you may just come back home with something................. ::)

All back, safe and sound.

A good and successful trip in all and certainly an experience, its one of those places that makes you appreciate what you have got as its a VERY poor place.

The trips in Fiat 1100 Taxis, some of which are from the 60's, (although the same design was being manufactured right upto 2002 in India) is interesting and very cramped. They do all run on CNG (compressed natural gas) but, the driving style is out of this world, its not a place where you want to be if you need emergency medical treatment because all you get is basicaly a Midi van as an ambulance which seems to be slower at getting through the traffic than the Taxis! (everybody uses Taxis, old buses and motor trikes so there are LOADS of them)

From a maintenance perspective, some of my obesrvations were:

Lights are clearly not compulsary, rarely used and certainly very rarely work
Brakes, gearboxes and clutches dont last very long here
Road maintenance seems to be non-existant!
Roag markings are a waste of time, I counted 7 vitual lanes on a two lane road
When crossing the road you realy do take your life into your own hands
Didn't see a single policeman!
Tyres are normaly the smoothest thing on the car with the only pattern visable normaly being the threads sticking through the canvas.

Traffic lights are very interesting....some have a timer which counts down the seconds until they are going to change, this has some interesting affects.

1) Red light, timer below 10 seconds......engine revs rise and the vehicles start to creep forward.....
2) Green light, timer below 10 seconds.......this means floor it, go for it....pretty un-nerving given the other traffic will be doing point 1!

A big hello  to A380 Elite who met me on the sky bridge, I hope we didn't make to much mess and that they managed to get the medi system repaired, It was great to talk to you.

Welcome back M_DTM, not that you were ever away from our little corner of cyberspace, what with broadband in the room etc.

Sounds like an interesting trip to see the different culture.  Reminds me a little of my trip to Egypt a couple of years back, only more extreme...

Note in the last picture....

1) The random holes in the road
2) A small section of slum and this is a picture from one of the top office complexes in the place!
3) The scaffolding (babboo and lashings) on the tower block

I suspect I know the fault......I was watching the system re-boot on one of the screens and noting the Linux (red hat) logs as it went. It was showing corruptions in Flash (I cant beleave they used something as un-reliable as flash for storage!) which is something I know a bit about so I suspect it needs a full re-build!

I confirm that Mark_DTM is an expert in solid state flash. Shame he couldn't fix mine though ;D
