Maybe a little more around town - my 3.0 does around 21/22 - but not much more. If you look at my 'fuel consumption' post in gen chat you find that if careful you might get up to c30mpg
-
yep thats about right! get on a good out of town run and it will improve.my 3.0ltr will do25/29 on a motorway run. dont forget £20 isnt much fuel these days!! :-?
-
lol not really hoofing it took it easy tonight and it went to 22 mpg but i love the sound when it kicks down is there anything i could do to improve mpg apart from gas conversion!!! that would cost more than the car ha ha
-
how do you get 22mpg out of a 3litre auto.have you got a raw egg placed on the go pedal?

get a lighter right foot ;D
hopefully, when novelty wears off, economy may improve when you start going a bit more sedately ;)

Looking at the answers, looks as though mine is a bit out also

Get 22 on my daily commute but can do a lot better on a decent motorway run.
Just don't look at instant consumption when you kick it down up a hill......

I am currently averaging 23/24mpg from MV6 auto, naff commute to work and back...

;DIt'll only get down to around 7mpg! ;D

7.1mpg appears to be hard coded limit on both MID types I've 'really tested' on...

I was talking to the local A/C specialist who is an ex Jag mech. He still plays with them & has a race prep'd V12 It does about 3mpg :o

I did say about! ;D Maybe it was my 2.2 Carlton with a 'van on the back I was confused with. ;)
-
The 2.5's I have had have always done 33-35mpg on motorway and a good 28 around town...
-
18 to20 mpg about right with me but i think i have alight foot :-/
-
I get about 24mpg from my 3.0 MV6 auto on the daily commute with loads of stop/start traffic. On a motorway run at 65-70mph I can get 32mpg [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
-
best i have seen on the MFD was 29 on a run back from cornwall in september more or less a constant 70mph with the cruise control on quite a lot! the worst was, well, dont want to talk about it but the MFD showed an average speed of 80mph over 250 miles!!
-
my mfd reckons average about 26mpg at the moment, i get about 100 miles to £20.
does that sound about right? :-/
-
thats about right tab, my old 4pot auto was'nt great but the 3.0ltr hasnt proved to be the horror story on fuel that a lot of people reckon! ;D
-
my 2.5 auto averaged 23.5 over the last year,i do a lot of short journeys though. i changed the oil last week and what came out of the filler neck could have kept hellmans supplied for a while!

I've found cruise has a slightly negative effect on economy, both cabled and dbw

I started a new job in November which requires lots of Motorway miles.
My 2002 3.2 MV6 will do:
36-37mpg at 60mph
33-34mpg at 70mph
31-32mpg at 80mph
For the previous 2 years I worked from home and did loads of short journeys which knocked it down to 23mpg.
I'm very happy with the motorway consumption, I hought I was gonna have to chop it in for a diesel but then our compny introduced a new mileage allowance that recognises bigger engined cars.
I calculated I need to do 26mpg to break even so I'm easily doing that.
;)

That's about what mine will do. If you can keep the speed down it is pretty good. Seems a bit of a waste though [smiley=evil.gif]

...... If you can keep the speed down .....
Which is why I tend to use cruise where & when I can. It helps to preserve my licience, as my speed would tend to creep up to near 3 figures without it. :-? ;)

Have a look at this spread sheet. It's data comes from OOF members who have contributed.

Ive wondered why i couldnt get my 2.2 to show less than 7.1mpg ;D :y

Me too, Cruise has the habit of dropping down a gear & accelerating rapidly to restore the speed whereas a human would gently squeeze the throttle & resume speed gently thereby economising on fuel

An Omega's cruise is very gentle compared to a Senator, they really did want to restore your previous speed ASAP! ;)

god yes I used to love resuming with greater than a 10mph increase to achieve. my 3.0i senator would absolutely lift off in a way I could never bring myself to do with the accelerator!

I've got a 3.0 mv6 auto. Does about 21/22 going to work in urban trafic. On the mtorway , if I set the cruise at 74mph I can get 34 mpg on a run.Not that I would ever drive over the speed limit of course. ;)
-
My current average is 22 mpg with a mix of motorway & urban. Urban driving usually gives mw between 16 - 18 MPG with 30 + available on motorway journeys.
Optimum cruise is usually between 56 60mph for pretty much any vehicle. I do some test driving for various companies and that is generally considered to be the case.
You are right about never being out of the garage, putting a tenner in is a complete waste of time and energy as you will be back there about 15 minutes later, worth for the V6 rumble though!
