Title: Catera 3.0 Issues
Post by: up2ng on 12 January 2008, 19:35:33
O.K.
3.0 v6
CODE P171 & P174 Are intermittently being set (Lean Bank 1&2)
Car has no pickup past 3000 rpm or 15-20% pedal (I can't pass cars without a loooong stretch of road. Anything past 1/4 pedal the car bogs quite badly.

I recently did the Valve Covers (August), cleaned the plug wires.
I did the covers because of misfiring, the misfiring stopped but this has remained.
Gas mileage has remained the same (about 23-24 mpg)

Any help would be great.

I'm no expert on 6 pots, but are your multi-rams free?

Clogged fuel filter or poor fuel pressure perhaps?

Air leak?

Is it misfiring or just bogging down?

As it has had oil on the plugs I wonder if this has taken out the coil pack?

With 83,000 miles I should prolly change the filter.

The Multirams are free and will open if I pulse the motor over 4000 rpm

Don't know about the fuel pressure.

When I did the cover gaskets, I pinched a wire on the drivers side under the cover (I think it might have been the KS). The wire was along the front hump, the wire is intact but I don't know how many leads are in it).

I dont know the condition of the coil but the car idles fine and BTW the plugs are new Bosch Platinum +2's

Lean bank 1 & 2.
So its something common to both banks and the ECU is unable to correct it.
I would change the fuel filter first, it could be all thats wrong. If this doesnt help then get the fuel pressure checked to see if its low or falling when the engine is under load....would indicate a poorly fuel pump.
