Not been here much, managed to spill a very small amount of water on my laptop - using swmbos..
Bizarre that the best internet access i will have is whilst at work..
anyway...that small drop of water has caused my left hand side of keyboard to malfunction - pressing any of 6-7 keys types the correct key but also at the same time the one next to it,,,,
Any ideas what the issue may be or how i could fix it? everything works fine but with out a keyboard it makes sites like this kinda hard to use, ebay etc is fine :D
If no one has any thoughts as to how to fix, or has done the same :( id be intrested to hear of your opinions on a new laptop
I dont do gaming and use for excell, powerpoint, this site, ebay online banking and not too much else, apart from music. Want to spend the bare minimum though ::)

dont think theres any damage, everything works, some other keys were also fully failing but now work....its now about 24 hours since :(
oh and i cant work this bloody toshiba thing....
-
after 24 hours if you still have problem there may be minor damage as the water must be evaporated
if you are not in the swimming pool :) and the water is not something like coffe or tea with sugar or worse cola.
-
any replacement keyboards on ebay?

-
as a cheap solution there new type small externall keyboards (some of them are like jelly apple color I want eat them!!)
or keyboard circuitry change..but I think this also is not expensive..

If you spill water on it again and get problems .. turn it off .. leave in airing cupboard (or other warm place) for at least 48 hours .. this fixes 90% of wet keyboard problems :)
-
mostly...depending on the amount of water..I dont think they like swimming :)
-
I remember the firm which I had my first job..They were washing the servers inside a bath (old servers) and totally the circuitry (except disks) and sell it as new ;D
-
Water does little damage ... unless its mixed with electrical current !! "normal" keyboards can be easily cleaned under a shower head and left to dry for 48 hours .. providing they are dry before applying power.. no problems.
Non-water spillages are different, as the residual contaminants - sugar, hops etc etc can "bridge" circuits when dry and still cause a short.
I have recovered laptops with spillages in the past by removing ALL batteries (including CMOS cell), leave to stand for 12 hours to allow capacitors to clear, wash thoroughly using de-mineralised water to clear "residues" - this can take a while if the residue has dried hard - leave to rdy for 3-4 days ... insert batteries.
Not a 100% certain fix as it depends what damage was caused when power was on.. but has been known to fix many a system.

Glad its working again :y
My laptop get abuse from tea coffee red wine and fruit juice spilt over it.......
Tho DO NOT go trying to clean it with carb cleaner ;D that will kill it for sure.....i know ;D
New keyboard of fleabay sorted it ;D
-
hair dryer it!
-
Glad it worked out ok.
Was gonna say Comet have a fujitsu siemens laptop in for 350 which looks quite good.
-
now when i say its sorted, that wasnt striclty true :-[
After realising i had broken it on saturday i decided to ping a few keys off, assuming they simply popped back on ::) they dont.
So although its functioning its cosmetically a bit challenged, two keys still off and i need to press the little silver panel under neath.
Looks like i will need a new keyboard ;D
