Title: New Auxillary Belt and Tensioner Pulley
Post by: Phil B on 22 January 2008, 13:05:56
Alright guys, just got off the dog to Vauxhall in Newport they say they can't supply just a pully for my 98 2.5 V6.

Apparently it was redesigned so I need to buy a new belt with complete tensioner unit at £80 + VAT.

He said the new belt is shorter and is fitted slightly differently so would take a while to work out how to refit!????

Anyone have any clues? I need to get this done before a leisurely drive to val d'isere

sounds like he is talking 'dangle berries'!

I am sure you can just buy a new belt...

Pretty sure you just bypass the extra idler on the very early cars (and I think it was only very early as in 1994).

He reckons it's shorter so I will need the new tensioner. My tensioner is fine, just the pulley bearings are getting noisy and the belt cracking.

I don't want it to go when I'm halfway up the french alps!

Ok I can ask for the pulley (I assume it comes with it's bearing?) by part code 9157962, but does anyone have a code for the proper belt? This needs to be changed just as much.

I agree with Tunnie. What 'dangle berries'. Try a dealer without a lonely brain cell.

They are talking complete Balearic's!!

I ordered mine today after asking on this very forum. It will take them till Thursday to get the part, so cambelt is getting done in the meantime and car back on the Road on Thursday.

Must be the time off the month for aux belts, the idler failed on mine yesterday, left with a shredded belt and a melted piece of roller.

Its nice to know that there are people like this forum who seem to be able to answer everything omega related

This was the Part Number for my 3.0 with Air Con, not 100% that a 2.5 is the same though  :-?
Aux Belt with Air-Con = V0093181720

He's trying to bend you over and give you a right royal rodgerin' at that price. Did mine last month came to just over £40 t.c.

On the early V6 engines there was an idler pully between the crank and A/c, this was deleted from production so isn't available anymore.

Mine "did" have one but fell apart the other week, go it recovered back to the workshop, stripped it down and got the remained of the pully off, one torx bolt in the middle.

Not a problem me thinks i'll take the pully off y spare engine but found that it didn't have the pully, then i remembered they deleted it. so all i've done was to take the belt off the spare.

Fitted on with having to change anything else. The belt route is the same but goes from the crank pully straight to the A/C pully

If you have a problem then give us a call and i'll see what i can do for you

cheers
Andy
