I have an ongoing problem with my climate control not playing ball.
I have drained and refilled the water system three times now, today was the latest, it gets hot from the blowers initially but then it peters out...and blows lukewarm/cool. If i leave the car standing warm for ten mins, the heater when switched back on will blow hot for a few minutes before cooling again. The fan operates fine as do the motorised valves when you change temp setting
I don't think its a blockage or an airlock in the heater matrix but to be sure i'd like to drain and flush the matrix alone, are the connection pipes the 2 silver ones with plastic connectors on?
Alternatively i guess i'm looking at a HBV problem... What do you guys think?
-
I would flush the matrix first before you go further. Its on the pass side rear bulkhead with 2 pipes going into it.
-
Driver's side surely? RHD?
It sounds like poor flow, flush can't really hurt.
Was it working before draining? If so, airlock is likely.

No it hasnt worked since it got cold out....
Someone has previously used radweld in the cooling system so i bought some rad flush last weekend and flushed it out, i have since emptied and refilled it twice to no avail...

Does it do this when the temp is set to max heat? If so theres a problem......
I have mine set to 22C and sometimes that blows lukewarm/cool air esp if the sun is shining.
Do you have a cheapo tech2? or can get the climate ecu read, just in case the climate ecu is reporting a problem with a duff sensor.
I assume the outside temp sensor is reading ok?
-
Outside temp sensor works fine.
Climate control, fans, motors etc etc all appear to be working fine except there's very little heat.
Engine temp gauge runs at about 85 and creeps up to nearly 100 in traffic before the fan cuts in.
I haven't got a tech 2 but i am going to Vx in a couple of weeks to get codes read and software updated incl cruise enabled so i'll have the answer by then, its just annoying as i can't figure out whats not working.
If i set temp to say 28, the fans will blow at full thrust as it thinks its blowing hot air into the cabin, if its a warm day and i turn the temp setting down to 20 the fans will calm down... hence i think the climate panel is working okay, just theres no heat in the matrix.

does it warm up if you turn eco on?
-
does it warm up if you turn eco on?
eco just takes the chill off the air...
If you switch off and let it stand for 5 mins, then turn back on, it blows hot initially then cools down again

pipes entering bulkhead hot?
Whats it like if you disconnect vac pipe from hbv?

Whats it like if you disconnect vac pipe from hbv?
If i found the right 2 pipes, ones a silver one with a plastic connector on and the other is a black rubber one, both felt hot.
Can't see the HBV to get to the vacuum pipe, is the other end of the vacuum pipe more readily accessible??

No, other end is a pig...
