Title: Elite seats
Post by: Entwood on 25 January 2008, 20:34:36
I have finally sourced some replacement seats for

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1199794063

I'm promised by the owner they are the correct and come from a 99 Polar Sea Blue 3.0 Elite with the same trim code as mine 99 Polar Sea Blue 2.5 Elite, just a round trip of 400 miles-ish to get them tomorrow Wiltshire-Grimsby-Wiltshire .. what joy .. :(

As they are removed from the car I can't actually check the electrics, so other than a "visual" check of condition, are there any other points to look for ?? I've seen pre-tensioners mentioned ..how do I check these ?

When I come to fit them I believe I have to disconnect the battery and leave for 30 minutes before touching the seats in order to discharge the pre-tensioners ?

Any tips/advice on changing seats from those who may have done it ??

Thanks in advance :)

just disconnect the battery for five minutes beforehand is sufficient. as a sidenote what are you doing with the old front seats?

I was just going to scrap them .. if you want them they are/will be yours !! (few beer chits to offset my costs would be nice... :) but as I wasn't expecting anything I'll not put a price on them.. I'll let you decide  :) )

As you can see, passenger side seat heater no longer works .. and neither does the drivers !!

not a problem, let me know when they are available and we will sort something out. as a matter of interest why dont you get the new seats put on a pallet and delivered?

In view of the hassle I've had trying to match the trim code .. I want to SEE the damned things first ....  I had to send one lot back to a scrappy which was a major headache  .... the guy selling these is asking a lot less than the scrappies so they could be a bargain or rubbish ... If they are good the total cost of seats + fuel will still be less than scrappy price.

Also, the guy is getting married and going away for 3 weeks, he won't be able to arrange anything until he gets back ...

It just seems easier to go and fetch the things !

Pretensioners - not really sure, but do they not show a 'flag' at the buckle if activated?

On the Vectra and Cavalier seats there used to be a plastic tab tied to the seat base that clicked into the pretensioner in case it went off when you transported them.  :-/

Just found some stuff in Haynes ..   section 12.23 ....  I'm guessing a 99 minifacelift has pyrotechnic tensioners .....

so reading the bumph ... once the battery is disconnected ... how do you move the all singing & dancing electric seat to access the bolts ....  ?

or am I missing something simple ??

You unbolt the seat before disconnecting the battery

Do you mean the bolts to bolt the seats to the floorpan?

If so, i'd guess if you put them in the same position as the ones that you are buying then you'll be able to remove them.... after all, that's how the seller must have got them out.

I think the seat winding handle is for just that purpose.
Mine was in the toolkit when I bought the car.

Any spare light couloured 'dots velour' seats (front or rear) with working heaters, I will happily take off your hands :y

I can get the ones with broken heaters (ie, mine!) back to Sassanach if all he wants is the electrics?  Or I could try persuading him to modify my MV6 seats to full memory ::)

yes, Yellow Plastic warning plate gets left in place as the seat belt clamp gets pulled back, the other give away is that you really strugle to to secure your seat belt on the side of the seat because its a few inches lower after they've be activated.

Okies .. 394 miles later, and many thanks to Tony of Grimsby, - who had never heard of OOF but now is the pround owner of a flyer :) - I have in my possession 2 Elite front seats at an extremely reasonable price. :)

They are exactly the right trim code and the cushions are in very good condition, however some plastic bits are missing / broken and only the drivers seat has the seatbelt bit, and that is showing a yellow tag beside the slot the seatbelt goes in .. from the above that implies to me the pretensioner has fired. Some of the wiring looks like it has been "pinched" a little.

Given the fact that the only thing wrong with both my seats is in the actual seat cushion area - Pasenger seat burned, Driver seat heater inop - I am considering a different approach to the fix ... and would crave any advice and help ....

What I'm thinking is NOT to replace the complete seats with the ones I've just got, but just to change the seat base cushions. This will keep all the known working electrics and pre-tensioners etc etc and get round the broken plastic problems, which would have to be swappped anyway.

Questions ...

1.  Right idea or not ?

2. How easy is it it to change the seat cushion on its own ??

3. How do you change the seat cushions ??

any ideas very gratefully accepted :)
