lol, he sounds a idiot then.  Of course its a misfire, why its happening is the key.

EML - Engine management light.  If its a 2.0/2.5/3,0 petrol, see maintenence guides for paperclip test

its 2.5i petrol.96 plate.
Title: Re: car jumpin like a kangero
Post by: TheBoy on 11 January 2008, 22:15:26
pull up a plug lead and check for oil in the plug well.  Then repeat for other 5.

Don't stress the leads too much, they can get fragile with age...

Reasonable amounts of oil in plug wells would suggest a cam cover gasket failure.

Check them again to see if oil returned.

Avatar fixed.

Before worrying what this, that and the other may cost, lets try to work out whats wrong!

So, has oil returned to plug wells!

Lec. window switches should stay lit up!?! How would you find them in the dark otherwise!?! If they annoy you they can be dimmed with the rotary control to the right, next to the headlamp switches.

Does the display show time & date correctly? Your aftermartket CD probably won't show any information about the radio station/CD track selection etc. More info needed.

Red 'anti' light??? Vauxhall radios have an anti theft light which flashes when the car is locked but most aftermarket units don't. There is also a flashing red light on the dash iirc which flashes when the alarm is armed. Hope this helps.

Hi mate, no fuses, this is a wiring fault. I wouldn't go pulling fuses either they usually cover a variety of things on the car and it will only upset something else.

It sounds to me like you haven't reversed the permanent/swiched live connections on the iso block. Vauxhall wiring is not quite standard. ie the permanent live is connected to the switched terminal on the back of your head unit which means it stays on all the time. the switched feed which takes it's feed from the ignition should be connected to the switched socket.

There are adaptors to do this but take a look at this diagram in the meantime;

HI THANKS  so how did it not do this with the other radio that was put in as it was the same wirein that was used?
so there is no way to undo the clock/date thing then via fuse?
also even when the radio is out fully and no power it still lights up the clock/date thing.
Title: Re: car jumpin like a kangero
Post by: davlad22 on 18 January 2008, 17:36:22
To put it simply, vauxhall radios only work with vauxhall wiring. It is only a simple little quirk and nobody really knows why it is like that. So basically you need to swap round the permanent and switched live wires. As mentioned, an iso-vauxhall wiring adaptor is the easiest and most reliable method.

The display, i presume you mean the 'MID' Multi information display on the left of the instrument dials? The key has to be removed from the ignition for this to go off. It is connected to the car really, not the radio. Something is not quite right? Perhaps when the wiring is correct for your radio this will behave itself? There is no fuse for it really so if getting stuck perhaps put your old radio in and see if the problem goes away?

Please see my post (moorej91)I dont know if it will help but I took my car into Vauxhall last week and they did a diagnostic check and found no faults. That was £57.50 gone. Because of that they checked the spark plugs. They said there was water by the plugs (not in engine) and they were the wrong plugs. I have had the car for 10 months now and have had no problems with starting or running. They said that is all they could find. They changed the plugs dried up the water and

Success problem solved.
