Title: part found broken
Post by: Omega Pixie on 27 January 2008, 22:47:56
We have taken off the plenum but at the back there was a switch on the right hand side (as you look at the car)  it looks like a vacuumn switch as it goes through the vacuum section but don't know what it does....found it when we removed plenum...it looks like it has already been bodged up before.....anyone know what it does?   part number is GM 90466214

Sounds like the charcoal canister purge valve but a photo would be good to confirm. It's basically there to vacuum out any fumes that have been collected from the fuel tank. Not a critical part but if it's leaking air into the intake system it could run poorly.

I'd put a request in the parts for sale section. someone will be breaking a car and can put one in the post I'm sure. They don't often fail so a 2nd hand one is a good bet.

That looks like a multiram vacuum actuator valve.....

Was the part attached to then plenum itself or mounted behind the engine on the driver's side?

IIRC, the multiram valve is on the plenum itself towards the passenger side. The canister purge valve is behind the engine on the driver's side. They are both small vacuum valves which do practically the same job so are likely to look, or be, the same.

Either way, if it's broken, replace it with a 2nd hand one.

Rear multiram vac acuator valve....it will have quite an impact on low end torque so needs replacing!

So best avoided then!

That seems a lot for two bits of injection moulded plastic and a small coil of wire.......ow and a 0.8p resistor

Fortunately they ar easy to get second hand, the V6 alone has three in the engine bay.

Actually I prefer whiskey  on the rocks, but if i have to i'll settle for a Black sheep or a waggle dance.
Usually I end up as the designated driver!!! so its soda water on rocks most of the time.....l
