I've looked via the 'search' facility - honest - but can't find owt. Somewhere there are photos of the climate control's sampling fan, and what might go wrong to prevent the fan from running.
Can any one help? The sampling fan in my miniface lift isn't .... :( ;)
I've had my doubts before but after the last few days of motorway driving I've eventually tested mine, with both a tissue & the steam from my coffee (in the service station !!!!!!!! ;)) & it appears to be kf***ed!

Its the climate electronics that fail, these drive the windings on the fan setup to make it turn.
I remove the fans and connect a 25mm x 10mm 12V PC style fan in its place......works very well.

Ok I've read this post and I'm interested to know where the sampling fan is on the facelift. What does this fan do? Sounds like something I should check out to make sure it works ;)

I think it was agreed a week or so ago that there isn't one. Just a thyristor in the climate control panel. :y

Thermistor - two legged (generaly) device the resistance of which varies with temp.
Thyristor - power switching device, commonly used on AC systems for motor control etc. Can switch upto 7KV at 5000A!

You are, as ever, absolutely correct. We have thyristors on our glass toughening plant which operates at 12000Kva. :o

And, before I get shot for saying the wrong thing again, I should add that it is a 12,000 kva supply. :y
And, I don't think the facelift climate panel has a sampling fan. Ask TaxiDriver, he took his apart and found that there wasn't one on his. :y

The facelift climate doesn't have a sampling fan, if you shine a torch into the air sampling vents you can see the thermistor.
The older models with climate did have an air sampler fan.

Took out the centre console this afternoon, and my sampling fan IS working. Well it's spinning but it obviously doesn't shift much air as it didn't have any impact on the steam from my coffee the other day.
PS how many back lights are there behind the CC panels? I counted 5 & they all seemed to work but ...... when I turn on the ignition BEFORE I turn the lights on I get some back light on both the temp selectors & on the AUTO/OFF/small fan/large fan but nothing behind the direction section :(. It all lights up with the lights on though. Where does the back light come from for the direction section of the CC? :-/

5 bulbs. All 4 clusters of buttons feed from 2 bulbs via light guides.

I must have some misguided light then. :( If it's working as well as it is I can sort my door handle out tomorrow - rain/snow pending. I need 2 hands to open the bugger from the out side. :-/
