Title: cruise for an MV6?
Post by: billythebass on 01 February 2008, 20:28:57
Hi guys, since losing my '98 MV6 I've been thinking of an elite, as the old girl didn't have cruise. Another later 2001 MV6 has come up and so can cruise go in there as a fitting? The seller says just fit the bits, my local Vauxhall garage says it's impossible to convert. Is there a forum member who maybe runs a garage that could do the biz as I'm a bass guitar player not a mechanic if it can in fact be done? Cheers for reading. If not I'm after an elite, low miles, late 3.0 or early 3.2 auto, no red tin worm.  :)

On the facelifts all you need is the stalk and a Tech2 to enable cruise. IIRC.

Any objection to a stupid question? What's IIRC at the end and is TECH2 like R2-D2 or C3PO? Damn, that's two stupid questions! Sounds possible though, pity Surrey is about 150 miles away.

IIRC:- If I ReCall
Tech2:- Handheld gadget that can reprogramme bits of most Vauxhalls and diagnoise faults. " people on here have them ;)

On my 2002 MV6 i installed a stalk from Ebay and a visit to Mark_DTM for the Tech2 magic.  Tech2 services cost me £30 notes which included a few other tests on the car.  Stalk was £12 delivered.

My 2002 model already had the clutch switch so i didn't need one.  I don't think all cars come with the clutch switch so you may need to drop one of them in too.

Works a treat now and is a nice cheap upgrade!  :y

Remember it does not matter if its a facelift or not... its the engine thats important!

2.2 / 2.6 / 3.2 - only need tech 2 + stalk (possibly brake or clutch switch)

2.0 / 2.5 / 3.0 - need the full works

So a 2.5 in a facelift needs all the cruise bits!  ;)

3.0 MV6, fit the actuator, cable, brake switch, clutch switch if manual, (4 wire) stalk, plug it in, and it will work.

2.6/3.2 MV6, fit (4 wire) stalk, clutch switch if manual (v6 tend not to have them), and get it enabled in the engine ecu (http://theboy.omegaowners.com)

If it needs Tech2 to enable, I'm in Brackley, about 10m from Banbury, 17m from Northampton

If you have the 3.0 then as others have said you need the full kit.  Mine just turned up this week  8-) - so perhaps we need to organise a cruise control party sometime?    :)

There's a full cruise kit here. I've heard the seller is a bit of a dodgey bloke though...  ::)  ::)  ;D
