Title: Steering idler
Post by: omega18 on 04 February 2008, 15:30:20
I am going to be replacing a inner track rod end and I was wondering what the best way to check the idler arm is? Just so I can replace it if them if there is any signs of wear.

Also I have just taken up the play in the steering box which has made a amazing amount of difference!!  :y

Thanks in advance  Karl

The rod will be fine, it may be seized slightly but not worn. Just check both track rod ends for movement/play.

The rubber boot on the track end has perished so is getting replaced, would the idler wear at all?

Only the joints normally wear the adjusting rods a normally fine, so check all the joints for play whilst your under there.

If any play in idler, replace.  Actually, if its that side you are working on, may be worth replacing as matter of course ;)
