hi all new here
i have bought a p reg omega 2.5 v6 with one problem it runs fine but when the temp gets up and the fans kick in i loose water from somewhere at the back of the engine quite a lot in one go it drops from the back of the engine to the floor not sure what to check under normal temp ie 89 to 90c it seems ok also i get a whine from the engine when running it goes in time with the engine when i rev it but the owner said its been like that for about 2 years with no probs but i want it right i am quite good with a spanner but just need pointing in the right direction on what to check thanks in advance for any help. i will have a look round this site now .

Sounds like the Heater Bypass Valve is leaking, rear of engine on the drivers side.
-
Heater Bypass Valve, have a search, there is loads about it and a how to guide.
-
ah im too slow!
-
is this common
-
Yes a fairly common problem ;)
-
trying to find a fitting guide now are they expensive
-
About £25 i think :-/
You need to check first for leaks though.

Probably in the top 2 things that go wrong from reading the posts here. Amazing Vx never sorted it really. The other really common one is crank sensor. Oddly, both are characterised by symptoms that don't point to the actual fault (intuitively).
I recently did mine. A tricky job because the valve is tucked away with not much room to wiggle about. However it is a one spanner (two tops) job ignoring the scratched hands and arms. Check out the great How-To here:

Your expansion tank will love you for it.

Yes you can, not for long though as the water pump is turned by it.
My money would be on the aux belt tensioner, or the waterpump itself.

bought a hbv from vauxhal current price 34.02p cheap one on ebay but did not fancy that . am right in thinking its broken when you rev the engine water comes out of a little slit on the body front and back does any one know normal running temps for the v6 i get 90 to 95 round town in traffic it goes up more but the fans kick in what should it run at on say a morotway at 70 also when towing a caravan and what stops my new hbv from bursting when the engine gets hot again
sorry to be a pain

Temp range seems fine,
Sounds like your HBV has failed seals internally, which is the common failure ;)
-
thanks just a bit worried the new one will go as the old one went during it running at 98 i got to dealers with it to pick up new one with no loss of coolant but it only got to 95 c with the heater full on

Carry out a system flush whilst your at it and also replace the antifreeze with a 50/50 mix of the GM red stuff ;)
