Title: Best place to get parts??
Post by: Marie on 08 February 2008, 14:56:30

Right Fellas next weekend my car is getting it!!!! ;D ;D ;D

The gearbox is being done next saturday James is helping me with Maria.

I have ordered the filter from j pat, its on its way. we are going to use a liquid seals and ill get the dexron 3 from helfords. (Thinkin about it How much do i need to do a complete replacement?)

James asked about my camblet and said we might as well do it as its due in 16,000 and the water pump wasnt changed last time.( i didnt know to do it at the same time as the cambelt if i know that i would have done it).

So here is my question where is the best place to get the cambelt kit and water pump from ? i have been quoted £83. from a vauxhall place.

Any ideas or can someone do me a better price then this?
This car is costing me a fortune at present and i need to keep this cost to a minium but without cutting corners or getting cheep parts.

Cheers guys.

water pump is recommended every other canbelt change, so it might not have needed doing when the belt was done last  :y

On a 2.0l, I'd change it every time anyway - its driven by cambelt, so a failure in pump does a lot of damage.

Don't forget the antifreeze ;)

got lucky there then

my 2.0 had a stamp in the book saying the cambelt was done at 67k, i bought it on 77k and decided same as you for peace of mind, full cambelt kit and waterpump, at 81k

That will be enough ATF to spill all over your hair, on the drive, and on your clothes.  Bloody stuff gets everywhere, and boy does it stink!

Cant comment on the stuff you use at work, but ATF has one of those distinctive, lurid, sickly smells.  And too much can put you in a strange new world ::)

Depends if you want genuine Vx parts as the price you quoted from VSC seems very cheap and almost certainly aftermarket parts.
See this thread........

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1202419196

I contacted Andy and he quoted me £96.78 inc VAT for the timing belt kit and £39.79 inc VAT for the water pump for my 2.2.
These are trade club prices and with a few other parts he would deliver for a tenner  :y

Edit:  BTW what's the engine code for your model?

Fuchs is about 3 miles from my house, you can smell Hypoid 80 about a mile away...

ok now ill show my woman side,
whats the difference apart from price to the non gen and the gen vx parts?

i suppose quality is another but there cant be that much difference surely???? :-/

With genuine parts any malfunction of belt etc. causing damage to your car would be under Vx waranty and they would be liable for damage providing their conditions are met, reeipt , date and mileage when fitted. With other belts you don't have this waranty.

The key items are the tensioner and rollers, they need to be good quality and not some cheap chinese bearings as its these that fail not the belts.

I can definately recommend the Autovaux cambelt kits, they are genuine Vx items at reasonable prices, I have used them on my old 2.0 Omega estate plus both my wifes and son's Vectras with no problems at all.

Good luck with the autobox next week.
