Its been a while since a proper update (despite some massive threads ;D), so here goes...
Since the Update 14 thread, its had the engine swapped. Twice. The donor engine ran fine for a few hours, but that was it. So the original engine went back in a few weeks ago. I had to stop using it, as the overpressuring damaged the top hose.
With some assistance, the head was swapped over the weekend, and this appears to have cured the overpressurising :D - I used for work today, no coolant loss.
Its been a hell of a saga, but it seems we (the forum) have cracked it at last :y
So I must say a sincere thank you to Jay_W, LFF64, Tunnie, Kevin Wood, Bo Bo, Sassanch, M_DTM, and in particular Omegatoy for your help in getting this far. Also, thanks to everyone who has contributed in the forums :y
There are still a few issues to solve - now it runs too cold, so probably knackered stat. Need to check waterpump. The cap is knackered (all 5 ::)).
But these are minor niggles. I am wary of stating its completely resolved - as I thought it was a couple of months ago only to have my hopes dashed - but I am quietly confident :D. Confident enough, I've just sent Mrs TheBoy down the chippy in it ;D
This project has been a forum saga, and I know many of you have probably felt involved in the twists and turns, so I would say another massive result for OOF :y
Edit: I forgot the first gearbox change, so thanks also to Laidback and JamesV6CDX :-[

Glad to see the update and that the outcome seems to be good. Well done for your perseverance!! Not sure that many people would have gone this far with a project like this. :y :y
-
Excellent news, well done :D
I bet you wish you'd listened to those who said back at the start to get the head off ;)
Still, I bet it's been a good learning experience, not to mention some good exercise ;D
-
A big well done to to you,, at least you know that if you have to dismantle anything in the future, the bolts or nuts wont be seized. ;D ;D
-
Excellent news!
Had it been me I'd have been tempted to fill it up with petrol a long time ago - and put a match to it! but well done for persevering :y

Chips hot enough?.....Fish to your liking?
If not send her back out in the tractor again as punishment... ;D ;D ;)

Don't like fish (except Birdseye Code Fish Fingers (so no fish then!)), so settled for a couple of bangers. Got a gob full of mouth ulcers, hence having lots of chips with lashings of salt ::)

Although our drive is big enough for 3 cars, its only single width, so we tend to use which ever car is at the front...

I heard salt's good for t'heart :)

But great for mouth ulcers - been rubbing salt on them all day. Smarts a bit, and numbs your mouth, and makes you dribble, but soothes after 30s of agony :o
-
Use orabase - wax coats the buggers

-
Good news.....I seem to remember shouting 'off with its head' fairly often!
-
glad its all come together in the end..... :y
On a personal level i learnt a lot that day, dont normally mess around with chain driven stuff, or diesels, like omegatoy said it wasnt a one way thing....
-
Brilliant news TB, I still remember the day when we both fetched it, and it seemed a simple cure back then would get it running properly in no time ;)

That should be a good hint to anyone looking to take on an "easy" project.... things are not always what they seem ;)

Got there in the end then Jaime!! ::)
Good to hear another OOF success story. :y :y

Excellent result, well done to everyone involved :y

Whenever you want to do your exhaust and crank sensor, you know where I am. As you know, I'm well practiced in intake and starter motor removal ;D. I reckon the exhaust gaskets could be a bugger with those back 2 studs, but we'll get there!
-
Good news.....I seem to remember shouting 'off with its head' fairly often!
Yes, I know... ...in the same way you shouted 'don't bend the oil pipes' on last years project ;D
-
Well done to everybody, what a team :y So what is the next project going to be ;D

How about rebuilding the old engine to 'as new' condition?

But then I'd need the tensioner that is currently embedded in you after your 'playing' ;D
-
Next job should be removal of the other fuel pump and get it well listed on ebay......
-
And other bits and bobs, as I really could do with getting some pennies back...
Omegatoy has already promised to steal the crank sensor and one of the rads next time I'm not looking ;D
Got a good alternator, starter, intercooler (not fan type), A/C compressor, ECU, loom, etc, so should be able to get a few quid back.
