Title: Air Con Condenser fans ?
Post by: Big_Roger on 14 February 2008, 23:00:14
Hi All,
I have just noticed that I have only one of the front A/C condenser fans runnning, and on full speed.
With engine running it comes on for about 10 secs full speed then off for about minute then keeps repeating this cycle.

The A/C compressor clutch is engaged continuously, and return pipe from evap is very cold, so is chilling OK.

I seem to remember they both used to run at half speed when A/C was on, and only changed to full speed if condenser temp continued to rise.

Have not had chance to check anything yet, but anyone any ideas ?

Roger

Could be a fuse or relay in the fuse box by the battery. Are both fans free to turn? They run in series at low speed, so if one is siezed the other will run flat out.

Hi,
Yep, I did try that, both fans very free to turn.

If all the fuses are OK I'd suspect a faulty relay in the underbonnet fuse box. Worth getting a handful from a scrapper and replacing them one by one. There is a layout of the relays in the reference section IIRC.
