AV Forums has some really talented people there. Alas, it has some who talk BS.  I don't visit there enough to be able to always tell the difference :(

I should be able to find out from the more dedicated TGB site, an MCE devoted site...

Basically, wanted to know if worth buying xbox360 as an extender (dont play games), and if I need extras...

Anyone local to me own a 360 that I can borrow for a couple of days...

A lot of people are using them as hubs, however to get the best out of one you need an HDTV, but unless you are gaming - might as well beef up the PC

Trouble with PC as an extender, is nobody makes the software. I've built a 2nd MCE, but its not quite as seemless as I imagine a 360 is...

Hmmm fair enough, not sure how the 360 will do as this, but the PS3 is supposed to support this role - but will it ever be launched?

As to your original question it appears that you can play stuff on the XBOX which is off the PC.

You will need to ask an expert

I was thinking more about hub type use, as for streaming off a PC I suppose two MS products would be more compatible

OK, I've borrowed an old xbox, installed extender software on it, but it insists on the dvd remote ir adapter. Anyone local to me got one I can borrow? Or a 360 I can borrow for a day or 2?
