My 2.5 v6 auto petrol has got an idle problem, I have changed the ICV and EGR valve but it still has the problem. It is difficult to start when cold, it will cut out soon after starting, when in reverse or drive with pressure on the streering, it will rev between 500rpm and 1700rpm as and when it wants, it will stay steady at about 900rmp a lot of the time when its warm, it does get a bit better when its warmed up. Any further ideas anyone???????????

Have you done the paperclip test? I had bad idle on mine and it was the MAF sensor. My cars a 2 litre though. Wait and see what the others with a bit more expertise think.

Air leak.
Get a can of carb cleaner and use wee squirts of it around the likes of where the ICV rubber goes into the plenum or the plastic ECO bit on the top of the plenum, etc. If the revs change, you've found the source of the fault....

Had a diagnostic check on the car earlier, it came up with code 19 incorrect RMP signal. If it was the crank sensor, im guessing the car wouldnt start, so does anyone think it could be the cam sensor?

code 19 is a crank sensor and should be replaced asap as the car will soon not start at all.

Thanks mate, i will have it seen to hopefully tomorow, i understand its a pig of job to do, but oh well, if it needs it then it needs it, at least the car should run a lot better!!!!!

Its not that bad a job, some people on here have done it in less than 20mins at the side of the road. ;)

Do it yourself for the price of the sensor IAW the following link.

The trick is in repositioning the cable route. It's one bolt and one
cable connector.
Go on, have a go. You know you want to. :)

On a 2.5.
You reroute the new sensor wiring, so you can just cut the old one off rather than trying to remove and replace ;)

Aye ten minute job and £30 odd for GM part - need a torx and ratchet and thats about it :y

the 19 may explain the cutting out, not sure it will explain irratic idle.
hope you didn't pay for diag - you can do it yourself for free with a paperclip.
