Post by: RonaldMcBurger on 15 September 2006, 22:27:59
1. Cambelt on Laidbacks mate's car
2. Cambelt and water pump on my Elite
3. Remove rediator on my Elite
4. Remove condensor on my Elite
5. Replace radiator
6. Remove plenum and inlet manifold
7. Replace Dis pack and plug leads
8. Replace inlet manifold (stripped thread)
9. oil & filter change on my CDX
10. Drill out blcoked crankcase vent housing on my w-reg
11. Remove and clean oil pressure switch on the w-reg
12. Replace same
13. Replace timing belt
14. Rebuild top end back up
15. Stop ratlle on exhaust on the CDX
16 Replace tailgate on the CDX.

There, that should keep me and dave busy for a couple of hours.

I am going for the world record on cambelt change tomorrow. I want to be stripped down to belt removed in 8 minutes or less and fully installed and timing set within 30 minutes, rebuilt in full before we get to 45 minutes and running engine again.

I have had a Sunbeam cylinder head off in 30 minutes from turning the engine off, head gasket - good idea to use new ones and not bodge when you have that emergency valve replacement.

Also when fitting a very high lift cam make sure the valves & guides are not worn so much that they stick on full lift, ONE did, replaced and was OK.

I eventually fitted a head with new valves and guides and a slightly lower compression ratio (I had skimmed about 100 thou off previous head) - this one was 60 thou.

It is a long story, reply if you want it and I'll start a thread about my trials and tribulations with that car

Pooh!, that's nothing, it only took me 3/4 hour to get the light's switch out of the dash yesterday.

HOW MUCH?  :o I'd consider a skim to be around the 0.010" mark, possibly even 0.020", but 0.100" ?that's nearly 1/8"! Your compression ratio would definately be lower with that much metal removed. ;)

Compression ratio would be higher......

Quite correct! :-[ I was still amazed by the 0.100" to notice the mistake.

Not un-common to remove that amount from old designs....

It was 8.8:1 but after a rebore I was given 7.8:1 and this was to restore the CR. I then got hold of 8.8:1 pistons and raised it to over 10:1
