Title: Bulb Out Warning On, But No Bulbs Blown??
Post by: Sonic_Boom on 24 February 2008, 15:58:30
Headlight and Tail light warning has come up on the Trip Computer, but i've been through all the lights front and rear even fog lights and nothing is blown.
Any ideas?
Cheers Rich

band connection m8 or could be a bulb breaking down and not drawing  enough current as warning info works on voltage connection through the bulb.

All four tail lamps? (2 tail & 2 stop/tail)

As said, there are 4 tail lamps, two in the wings and two in the boot lid.

If all bulbs are working, try replacing the bulbs, some bulbs will confuse the electronic checking system even when actually working due to the filament's resistance being out-of-spec.

If all else fails buy original Vx bulbs, they usually work well with the electronic testing circuit.

Everything working as it should. When you press the pedal the check system is looking for 2 brake lights, if two of them light then the system is happy and the message disappears, if only one brake lamp lights, then the message remains. The message would also appear if a lamp failed while out & about.

cheap bulbs can make the computer think wrong due to lack of resistance  :y

I had the HEAD/TAIL LIGHT warning appear. Checked bulbs, all working. Warning still there. Also Cruise Control was not working and Side light on drivers side would light up when brake pressed. :-? Changed a bulb that I had recently replaced after it had blown and everything went back to normal. :y
It's right what the others say, the warning can appear even before the bulb fails completely.

Forgot to add...My alarm kept going off for no reason a few months back. Traced the fault to a headlight bulb that was about to fail. Changed the bulb..sorted.  No more angry looks from the sleep deprived neighbours.
