Hi there. A bit of history. Car has had an oil leak for a while. I had the rocker cover gasket and associated work done which eased the leak but did not stop it. I had timing belt replaced a week ago and asked mechanic (different one) to see if he could see source of leak. He said he couldn't as there is so much crud accumulated. In the past few days, oil leak is much worse. I am thinking about having engine steam cleaned to remove crud. I've heard tales that steam cleaning can be a bad idea. Any views? TIA

So which region is this oil leak?

Can't pin-point it, it seems to be the front of the engine rather than the back and has left a '[' shape on the road. Nothing obvious I can see from top of engine.

What about from underneath?

I don't have any means of getting underneath (no trolley jack, axle stands etc) thats why I asked mechanic while he had it.
