Sorry, but I know this subject has been raised before. Can anybody tell me if the "sampler fan" should be running all the time the climate control is on,or will it only work when "auto" is set.
I am getting really fed up with either having the car ...very hot when set to high..or very cold when set at any temperature from 27 to 18..at low it is really very cold so know air con is up to spec.
Please can somebody help me get this sorted

Yes, sampling fan should always run
-
Thanks TB..is that allways with climate on or allways with ignition on,as unsure how to test it is working

All time climate panel is on (not necessarily on auto).

So looks like mine has stopped working ...time to remove and investigate..do you just solder in a replacement fan or is it more involved ?

Bit more involved - I'm sure Marks_DTM will be along shortly with the details - you have to wire it on a different bit of the board.

Can you get the fans from GM or cheaper to go to Maplins ?

Vx wont sell you fan - have to get whole ecu. Can get fans easy enough, but have to connect them differently on the board...

Is there any wiring details on the site,or details of fan replacement and type to get.

As I said earlier, hopefully M_DTM will be along, as I seem to recall he has done it before.

Right
Its not the fan that fails, its the drive circuitry...
What I do is remove the old fan and fit a 12V 25mm x 10mm PC type fan (available from Maplin for a fiver) which is screwed to the climate panel case where the old fan used to draw from.
The two wires (you dont need the sense wire) are then wired into the outer two holes of the PCB where the old fan fitted.
If I do another one, I will create a maintenance guide.

Thanks for info Mark, will try your advise and get the fan from Maplins and have a go at it....pity I wasn,t closer to you for "on hands advise".Thanks again

The only thing to be aware of is the direction of blow of the fan but, you can test this before full re-assembly.
The fan needs to be screwed to the rear palstic cover, the 25mm version fits very nicely over the duct hole where the old fan used to draw. I seem to remember drilling some small pilot holes from the top and then using some very thin machine sacrews from below to hold it in place.....its actualy pretty obvious when you take it apart.

Check visually that your fan isn't running first. A few weeks back I was convinced that mine wasn't running, nothing seemed to happen with either a tissue or SWMBO's ciggy smoke. When I pulled the centre bit of the dash forward, you can see the fan - just - and it was running as it should.

Beware, the first stage of failure is slow running.....and sometimes they dont start at all....but, the speed is not enough to get a decent level of air sampling.

So a replacement of the fan should get things working again?might do a "dry run "with a panel from a breaker and get it all working then remove existing and traight replace with a now know functioning one..other advantage with that is if I mess it up car is still usable..will try some pictures when got bits and see if we can do a "how to guide " as seems to be a frequent question.

Hi All,
Just to muddy the waters a little!
I don't know from what year or model, but later versions, certainly 2002 on the 3.2 sampler fans are not fitted.
I know this because like some of you I couldn't see any ciggy smoke drawn through the small hole in facia panel and thought I had a fault.
I took the whole gubbins apart, even the assembly that is behind all the push buttons. There was no fan, nor any type of arrangement to hold or fix a fan to. definately had not ever been one, even though there is still a small hole in the facia
I don't know where the later system senses the interior temperature, but I can only comment that my climate control is spot on. it reacts immediately if when you stop and open a door to let someone out by speeding up the fan and increasing the heat, then as soon as temp is up again it powers down again.
It would be interesting to know just when VX ceased using the sampler fan control system, as i am sure there is going to be someone else like me looking for faults that don't exist.

Facelift setup is totaly different.......possibly because the early one suffered fan failure! ;D

Now you tell me! ;D Thanks I keep an eye on it. :y

Think I might have the start of this problem too.. I just thought that the fan & airways might need cleaning and have been lazy to take it apart!!
Now I may have a clearer idea of what to look out for when I do..
Thanks Guys :y

Reading peoples problems with this system,it would appear that it is quite a common problem..maybe one that you are unaware of..am now on the saerch for a replacment digital climate control panel and will attempt to produce a how to repair guide.
