Title: paperclip test
Post by: Albus Dumbledore on 29 February 2008, 21:50:53
Hi!
I was earlier today going to try the "paperclip" test on my car, and I found the diagnostic port, under the steering wheel, by the fuses.

But, according to the do it yourself guide here, there should be a 10 pin port, but my car doesn't have that. The port has (about..) 12 or 14 holes, and in seven of them there were pins. which should I short circut then??

Any ideas?

You mean 16 pins...   ...and our guide - http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1189022687 - clearly shows the pins :y - ignore topbuzz, its full of errors  :'(

Ok, done the paperclip test. The result was:
71
16
73
31

What does that mean, and what do I do??

71 = air temp sensor voltage high

73 = air flow sensor voltage low

31 = rpm signal (crank sensor) no signal (are you doing the test with engine running? if not you will get this code)

16 = knock sensor no change in voltage

hopefully someone else on here will tell you how to rectify as I dont have or never had any 8v omegas

cheers

the 16 will cause it to 'hold back', and is probably caused by the cable being trapped somewhere (likely cam cover)

Ok! No the engine was not running when I did the test. The do it yourself guide said that it wouldn't work with the engine running on a 2.0l.

Ok, I'll check the cable on nr. 16. Does anybody know the rest? what it could be?

The MAF ones tend to disappear on v6 engines once other faults fix.

I would recommend cleaning the throttle body and clean the breathers, making sure no air leaks on reassembly, then see what happens...

What's MAF?

Mass Air Flow meter, the first bit after the air filter.
