Title: Heater Secondary Circ. Pump?
Post by: Debs. on 06 March 2008, 19:25:20
In the course of installing my cruise actuator I`m relocating the 12 volt secondary water circulator pump/bracket (the pump appears to be in series with the heater matrix).....being a curious madam I unplugged the pump and tried it on a 12v. feed direct for the Batt.: of course it didn`t work, no buzz/hum or even any spark upon connection)...therefore, I assume it`s toast?

I don`t have climate; just a normal heater and aircon system: so what purpose does this pump serve?   :-?

There is also a similar type of unit on the N/S of the rad. but I do know that`s the after-run unit.  ;)

I think that this is something to do with the Winter Pack.  It means that you can stay in the car with the engine switched off and the heater on.  The idea being that the aux pump will continue to circulate hot coolant through the heater matrix and in turn supplying hot air to the interior of the car.

If I am wrong, I have no doubt that others will be along to correct me! :)

On my 2.6 that pump seems to be there to run the climate when the engine is shutdown. I have not yet investigated all the times it runs

Trying to improve the heater performance of our 2.5, I added that pump and its plumbing. The second hand pump I bought, when powered up did not run. Dismantling the motor showed well worn brushes, so I think it runs a lot more of the time.

The bright side is that cleaning up and reseating the brushes brought it back to life, maybe you need to check this.
The dark side is, it made no real difference to the heater performance.

A long winded way of saying what is its real purpose?
