Title: Help!! car is dead. :-(
Post by: colalowe on 07 March 2008, 07:45:30
Ive been away for a month working and when I got back I tried to get into the omega, the remote didnt work and the key does nothing in the drivers lock so I cant get in!!

I suspect the battery has gone flat, although normally it is ok and its a new one, may have left something on ::)

How can I get into the car to open the bonnet if the key doesnt open it??  (it turns forward one click and back two clicks.)

any ideas??
Cheers. :-[

Had that happen to mine, ended up calling out the AA.

It is possible to turn the key further than normal, I can't remember which direction, in the manual?

I was not using enough force, frightened of breaking the key.
Chances are the mechanism has not been used for a long time and will be very stiff.

I remember other postings about the same problem, a search on here?

Do you have a boot lock, you may be able to access the boot lamp and apply 12V to its connector, watch polarity if you do.

Try this:
If you can, crawl-under and attach a battery-charger/jump-starter red lead on to the starter motor terminal; where battery +ve lead joins it, clip the -ve charger-lead onto the engine block (in a clean place).....wait a few minutes for the voltage to rise enough and the door locks should work enabling unlocking....then open the bonnet and charge battery 'fully' in the 'normal' way.

The key in lock will be stiff, moreso if its deadlocked, but will work.

The key just needed a lot more preassure and it went that little bit further and opened up.

Just got to get the battery charged now and find out why its gone so flat?

Thnaks once again,  I would be lost and probably skint by now if it wasnt for this forum!  ;) :y
