Title: Vehicle cannot start
Post by: DaviesEB on 05 March 2008, 15:12:13
To All, I have an omega V6 2.5 1997 Petrol vehicle. It has been 6month old with me i decided to change the plugs and since then i experience high starting most times. Sometimes after park when i try to start it refuses. A mechanic told me there was no spark coming from the plug wire. He suspects the sensor.
In Africa we do a lot of try and error diagnostics. This made me search for this site. Can anybody help i am in a fix

Start off with the paperclip test :

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1152601768

Post back the results and it gives a much better starting point.

my 1st guess is you will have a code 19, which is the Crank Sensor
In which case, replace it.

thanks much but how dom i get to see this code 19 as i do not have a diagnostic machine to do that.
Well my vehicle has done 155 000 is that the reason. i will want to know why it failed so i can prevent it next time
cheers

Click on the link above this will tell you how to read the codes by shorting out two pins on the diag connector under the steering wheel.

The codes are worked out by counting the number of times the ECU light flashes.

if you have not done this before, it is really easy.  You don't need to be quick either as the codes keep repeating.   Best to have the engine running though to avoid misleading codes.

Not sure what you mean by 'high starting'?

High starting is when you crank for a long time before the engine starts to beat.

Now when ever i crank it just continues cranking but engine does not start at all.

Please can somebody be of help.

Not solved mine yet,i got a crank sensor yesterday and if weather stays fine hopefully fit it  today, bit optimistic whether it will cure mine or not as mine didn't show a code 19.

Can you let me know the cost of the crank sensor and also which autoshop you bought it from.

I will need a tel no for a shop that i can get parts from. I am in Africa.
Can you or anyone find me the plastic cover that covers the front tow hook.

send andyc a message, he (works at Vauxhall and) can probably sort you out...

But have you read the codes yet?  NO point changing it without checking, could be a very expensive fix if you approach fault finding that way.

Crank sensor certainly not good. knock sensors (16,17), cts....  :-/

Has drastic work been done, wondering if bits not plugged in right?

Double check crank sensor is plugged in properly, if it is, replace, then see where we go from there.

I am sort of getting to be a mechanic. When i got to the garage the mechanic had loosen the front end of the engine.
That is the radiator and you can see the belts. The timing belt was in place but he loosened the drive belt.
I did not start the car but just turned the switch onn and did the test.
I will spend the whole day tomorrow to have him put all back. there was a few splash of oil around where the belts were. I will get him to wash off all the oil.
Since i bought the vehicle 6 months back there has not been any servicing. These vehicles come from Europe and the dealers just sell.
I will clean the entire front and replace then do the test again.

I will also get to the crank sensor and check if wires are intact as i just learn wires are around hot surface areas. Think i am enjoying this now.
